Identification features of the teeth

Maxillary central incisor

• Square outline of the crown, labially.

• Mesio-incisal angle is sharp. Disto-incisal angle is rounded
• Incisal edge: straight
• ‘W’ shaped lingual fossa.
• Cingulum: more prominent
• Short, cylindrical single root with blunt apex, Single root canal

Maxillary Lateral Incisor

• Labially: rectangular outline of the crown,

• Both angles are rounded, Disto-incisal angle more rounded
• Incisal edge: inclined distally
• ‘V’ shaped lingual fossa.
• Cingulum: narrower, centered
• Conical distally inclined single root. Single root canal

Mandibular Central Incisor

• Bilaterally symmetrical
• Mesiodistally narrow
• Mesio-incisal angle and disto-incisal angle: sharp
• Incisal edge: straight
• Incisal edge: at right angle to long axis of root
• Root: Single, mesio-distally flattened

Mandibular Lateral Incisor

• Bilaterally asymmetrical
• Mesio-incisal angle: round, disto-incisal angle: more round
• Incisal edge: not straight
• Incisal aspect: Crown twisted over the root
• Root: single, mesio-distally flattened, distally inclined at apex
Maxillary Canine

• Mesial cusp slopes shorter than distal cusp slope

• Labial ridge: more prominent
• Cingulum, lingual fossa, Lingual ridge: more prominent.
• Bulky root with prominent developmental depressions on both sides
• Single root with mesial or distal inclination

Mandibular Canine

• Narrow mesiodistally
• Mesial cusp slopes shorter than distal cusp slope
• Cingulum, lingual fossa, Lingual ridge: less prominent.
• Labial ridge: less prominent
• Crown twisted over root
• Single root with mesial or distal inclination & single root canal.

Maxillary 1st Premolar

• Distal Marginal Ridge: Perpendicular to the long axis of tooth
• One root with distal inclination

Mandibular 2nd Premolar

• Round (2 cuspid) or square (3 cispid) occlusal outline

• Two cusps: 1 buccal & 1 lingual, lingual cusp well developed
