Film Analysis

“Frankenstein”

Description of the Film

The film revolves around the main character, Victor Frankenstein, who ended up
creating a monster-human out of a dead person’s body parts from his obsession of resurrecting
the dead through electricity. His passion with the sciences started when he was a little boy, and
especially when his pet dog died. He wanted to prove that to bring the dead back to life was
possible with science.

Issues in Science and Technology Involved in the Film

I believe the issues in science and technology in the film were: first, electricity and/or
lightning directly gives back life back to a person, giving life and function to all his body parts.
Second, stitching disembodied body parts, including major ones like the head, will make it
function as how it used to function. And third, the resurrected creature was able to speak, think
rationally, and read like a normal person, all without confusion, as if it wasn’t an artificial person
at all.

Self-Analysis and Self-Assessment of the Issues Involved in the Film

Regarding the issues in the film as mentioned above, I believe the film was trying to
prove a point, as it may seem like it was thought logically and you may believe that it is possible
if you were watching the film without any knowledge on how the human body or life in general
works. But if I were to say, it is more on the fantasy side as the things done in the movie defied
human anatomy and physiology. You could not just stitch chopped-off body parts together,
charge it with a high power electricity, and expect for it to come alive. It seems simple, but it is
impossible. For instance, a human needs blood to live and well-functioning nerves, veins,
arteries, organs, and many more to be able to move and become alive.

Conclusions
In conclusion, though it seemed impossible in the movie, Victor Frankenstein was able
to prove that it was possible to resurrect the dead using electricity. He was able to discover
something that sounded crazy to people, even scientists. Though defying ethical standards as
playing god, the giver of life, he became a well-renowned person in science.
Film Analysis
“Artificial Intelligence”

Description of the FIlm

The film revolves around the “mecha”, David, who was a child-sized robot programmed
to love and fulfill the needs of childless families. It was designed to be able to “imprint” on its
adoptive parent and it could love them forever. It was first of its kind of robots as it had the
ability to create its own dreams, feelings, objections, will, and desires. David, who was the first
model of its company, was adopted by Monica and Henry. Monica had imprinted on David
which made the mecha desire to earn his so-called mother’s love. He believed that to be able to
do so, he must become a real live boy, as he was thrown out of their house and abandoned for
this reason. Upon his great desire of becoming one, he went in search of the Blue Fairy as he
believed she would be the one who could help her. After a series of adventures, he was able to
find the Blue Fairy and patiently prayed for his wish, unknowing of what the fairy actually was.
Two thousand years have passed, David was dug up and found by aliens who now dominated
Earth, as humans became extinct after the “freezing”. As David was there only source of getting
a glimpse of the past where humans still existed, they only wanted to keep him happy. Thus,
they read his mind and granted his wish to finally meet his mother and resurrected her for a day.
David finally heard what he always wanted to hear, and that is his mother telling him that she
loves him. As soon as Monica fell into deep slumber, David did too as well, finally at ease.

Issues in Science and Technology Involved in the Film

I don’t believe there are any issues in Science and Technology Involved in the Film. It
seems impossible looking from now, but it is not impossible to happen in the future. Regarding
the last part, it is not impossible for humans to go extinct. We cannot anticipate to last forever,
as much as dinosaurs did not expect that they will go extinct. But rather than aliens, I think we
will be replaced by variations of our Earthly species rather than outer-space creatures. Another
thing that I doubted to be possible was the so-called “freezing”. Our world is now, and ever
since, experiencing global warming, melting ice in the polar regions, intense heat, and breakage
of the UV barrier. In my own opinion, I think that if we ever go extinct in the future, it would be
caused by extreme heat, drought, and sun damage, rather than ice.

Self-Analysis and Self-Assessment of the Issues Involved in the Film

Aside from what I have mentioned above, contradicting what the movie predicts that
will happen the future, I don’t think there are any issues involved in the film. Everything in the
movie is very well-detailed and thought off, making it look realistic. From the robots to the
machines and to the flying cars, nothing is impossible to happen especially with the
advancement of today’s technology. I greatly commend those who made the movie, given that
the movie was made in the year 2001. What more if it was made in 2024? It seemed like the
directors have time travelled from the future. It was an exceptional movie with a great storyline
and plot.

Conclusions
In conclusion, the movie showed how powerful artificial intelligence can be, how much
power it may hold as it can dominate the entire human race, leading to our extinction. It
showed how advanced and develop our world could become, and how much the world could
change and our lives could be affected if it were to happen in real life. It showed us the
importance of balancing technology and humanity, one not overpowering the other.
Film Analysis
“That Sugar Film”

Description of the Film

The film is a documentary of Damon Gameau who wanted to experiment on the effects
of consuming a lot of sugar on your body. His goal was to consume the average amount of sugar
taken in by people on a daily basis which is 40 teaspoons for two months. He wanted to see if it
would affect his overall health. He did this with the supervision of professional doctors and
nutritionists. He did a lot of research and travelling to know more about the different diet
practiced by people in different places. After just the first two weeks, he showed signs of weight
gain and accumulated fat in his liver. And at the end of the experiment, his results showed a lot
of increase in his triglyceride count, cholesterol, visceral fat, waist circumference, and weight.

Issues in Science and Technology Involved in the Film

The issue I found to be involved in the film is that the doctors and nutritionists still
allowed Damon to proceed with the experiment, when research has already proved what
harmful effects sugar can do to our body. Damon was asking for advice, and they-- as the ones
with more knowledge and expertise, the bigger persons-- must have stopped Damon from what
he was going to do because they knew that it was very dangerous to do so. It would risk
Damon’s health and may even put him on critical condition. As experts, they know better and
should’ve stopped another person from being a victim of diseases associated with sugar.

Self-Analysis and Self-Assessment of the Issues Involved in the Film

From the start, I already anticipated what the results were going to be, and looking at all
the food he was eating since the first day of his experiment, I already cringed just by looking at it.
As a diabetic and even as a person who has general knowledge on the effects of sugar to people
in general, I highly discourage anyone to follow what Damon has done in the film.

Conclusions
To sum everything up, generally, sugar is bad for our health. It is important for our body
to use as fuel for energy but it must only be taken in moderation. Too much sugar can lead to
obesity and life-threatening diseases like diabetes, heart attack, kidney and liver failure, and
many other complications including limb amputation. Also, high-sugar food don’t only pertain to
the common sweets that we know like candies and chocolate. Even those food that we think are
“healthy” are full of hidden sugar as well.
