Good morning class!
Good morning Teacher Von!
Before you take your seat, kindly arrange your chairs
properly. (The learners arrange the chairs)

You may now take your seat.

Thank you sir.

How are you today class?

Good sir!

Since you are all good. May I ask anyone from here to
recall our last topic? Last meeting, we talk about statistics. From collection
up to analyzation of data.
Okay very good. Today, we will discuss a new topic.
B. Motivation
Before we start in our discussion, let’s have an activity
first. This activity is called “Position Puzzle”. In this
activity, I will randomly select 7 learners to participate.
They are given an age tag then they will be going to
write their age on it. Lastly, they will have to arrange
themselves according to what the situation will be. Is it
understood?
Yes Sir!
(Sir von starts selecting 7 learners randomly.)

Those randomly picked learners, please proceed in front

and write your age on the tag. (The 7 learners write their name on the tag)

Okay, fix yourselves now. Are you ready everyone?

Yes Sir!
(Sir von present the activity through PowerPoint
presentation)

1. Arrange yourselves according to your age, from

least to greatest. In 3,2,1 go. (The learners arrange themselves according to their
age, from least to greatest)
(Sir Von did a counting from 1-5)
12 12 13 13 13 13 14
Questions:
a) What age appear the most among the group of
students? 13 Sir!
(call someone from the class)

Very Good!

b) What is the middle value or the Median of the

data? 13 Sir!
(call someone from the class)

Very Good!

c) If you are going to add all the data and divided it

by the number of students who is here in front. 12.86 Sir!
What do you think is the average?
(call someone from the class)

Okay Very Good!

Thank you class. You may now go back to your seat.

So what we did is somewhat related to our topic today.

Our topic for this day is all about the measure of central (The learners will go back to their seat)
tendency (mean, median, and mode)

But before that let me introduce to you our objectives of

the lesson: Kindly read everyone. At the end of the lesson, at least 85% of the learners
must have:
a. Illustrate mean, median, and mode of
ungrouped data.
b. Find the mean, median, and mode of
ungrouped data.
c. Solve problem involving involves mean,
median, and mode of ungrouped data.

C. Content
There are three measures of central tendency

Can you give me one? (calling random learners to

answer) Student 1: Mean Sir!

Very good! What else?

Student 2: Median Sir!
Okay! And the last is?
Student 3: Mode sir!
So those are the measures of central tendency.

Let’s go first what is mean? Anyone?

Student 4: the mean is the average of a data set.

Very good. The average of a data set.

Can you give me an example of where you usually

observe or see the mean or average?
Student 5: report card sir!
Very good!

You can compute the mean using the formula x=

∑x
n
where ∑ x is the sum of the data and the N is the
(the learners are listening)
number of values in a data set.
(the learners are trying to solve on their own)
Example: In a survey of 10 households, the number of
children was found to be 4 , 5 ,5 , 4 ,3 , 6 , 2 , 6 , 4 , 1.
Calculate the mean number of children per household.

Solution:

x=
∑x
n
4 +5+5+ 4+3+6 +2+6+ 4+1
x=
10
40
x=
10
x=4 Everyone: Yes Sir!

Did you get it?

Very good!
The next measure of central tendency is the median.
(calling someone to answer)
Anyone from here can share what is median?
Student 6: The median is the middle value in a set of
data

Student 7: to find the median, arrange the scores

Very good! So how are you going to find your median? either in decreasing or increasing order and find the
middle score. If the data set contains an even number
of values, find the two central values that split the
data set into halves. Then, calculate the mean of the
x 1+ x 2
two central values using the formula x= .
2
Example 1: Find the median of the following set of
numbers.
8 , 14 , 8 , 45 , 1 ,31 , 16 , 40 , 12

What is the first thing to do? Student 8: Arrange the data set descending or
ascending order sir!

Very good! We can arrange the data set given in either

both of the order. If, we arrange these numbers. Then it
will become

1 , 8 ,8 ,12 , 14 , 16 ,31 , 40 , 45

Among of these numbers. What is the middle score? Student 9: 14 Sir!

Very good! So, 14 is the median because this number is

on the middle position.

Example 2: In a basketball game between ABC High

School and XYZ High School, the ABC players’ individual
points were 3, 13, 7, 5, 21, 23, 14, 11, 23, and 8. What is
the median of the given scores?

Can you arrange the given set of data from smallest to Student 10: 3 , 5 ,7 ,8 , 11, 13 ,14 , 21, 23 , 23
largest number on the board? (calling someone to do
board work)

Is the number of values in our data even or odd? Student 11: Even Sir!

Very good! Since our n is even, it is possible that there

are two central values. So, we need to add those two
numbers and divide it by 2 to calculate our median. Can Student 12: 11 and 13 sir!
you find the two central values?

What is the number in between 11 and 13? Student 13: 12 Sir!

Very good! The median of the given set of data is 12.

Did you get it? Everyone: Yes sir!

Lastly, we have the mode. Anyone from here can share Student 14: the mode is the measure or value which
what is mode? occur most frequently in a set of data.

Very good!

Example: The data below shows the number of pets

each student has.

322453134 1

First thing to do is to arrange the data in descending

order.
Can you arrange the data on the board? Student 15: 1 1 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 5

Now, what data or number most frequently occur? Student 16: 3 Sir.

Very good. Our mode is 3, because 3 occurs thrice

compare to the other numbers which is they occurs
twice.

Did you get it?

Yes Sir!

D. Activity
At this time, I want you to group yourself. To make it
fast, the group will be by row. Form a circle now. Colors Frequency
Directions: Yellow 4
1. You will be given an activity sheet. Red 5
2. You need to find the frequency of the color and Blue 3
write your answer on the given activity sheet. Green 4
3. Find the mean by adding the all the frequencies Violet 4
and divide it by the number of data values.
4. Arrange the data and find the number who is in 4+ 5+3+4 + 4
the middle position. Mean: =4
5
5. Find the number who is most frequently occur.
Median: 4

Mode: 4
E. Evaluation
In a ½ crosswise. Answer what is being asked. a)
2101
x= =84.04
In a class of 25 students, their scores in a mathematics 25
test are as follows:
85, 92, 78, 90, 88, 75, 84, 82, 95, 88, 80, 85, 92, 88, 90, b) 75, 78, 78, 80, 82, 82, 84, 84, 85, 85, 85, 85, 86, 88,
78, 85, 92, 88, 84, 86, 90, 82, 88, 85 88, 88, 88, 88, 90, 90, 90, 92, 92, 92, 95
~
x=85
a) Calculate the mean score for the class.
b) Find the median score. c) mode=88
c) Determine the mode of the scores.

F. Assignment
Ask 15 households in your community about the number Learners answers’ may vary
of gadgets they have. Compute the mean, median, and
mode.
