This week, I would give you guys 10 academic vocabulary and specific ways to use them in
your IELTS conversations. After that, I include the introduction to the CEC Speaking
Technique, and then how you can use it in part 1 and part 2 IELTS speaking answers.
Advanced Vocabulary
1. Articulate
Definition: able to express thoughts, ideas, or feelings coherently and effectively.
Usage: She was able to articulate her thoughts on the issue clearly and persuasively.
2. Contextualize
Definition:* place or study in context.
Usage: To fully understand the story, it's important to contextualize it within the author's body of
work.
3. Disseminate
Definition: spread (information, news, etc.) widely.
Usage:*The internet has made it easy to disseminate information quickly and broadly.
4. Epitome
Definition:* a person or thing that is a perfect example of a particular quality or type.
Usage: She is the epitome of kindness and generosity.
5. Hypothesize
Definition: propose a hypothesis, a supposition made as a starting point for further investigation.
Usage:*Based on the available data, we can hypothesize that there is a strong correlation between
these two variables.
6. Innovate
Definition: make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas,
or products.
Usage:Companies that fail to innovate risk becoming obsolete.
7. Proliferate
Definition: increase rapidly in numbers; multiply.
Usage: Social media platforms have proliferated over the past decade.
8. Reiterate
Definition:say something again or a number of times, typically for emphasis or clarity.
Usage: Let me reiterate my point to ensure everyone understands.
9. Synthesize

Definition: combine (a number of things) into a coherent whole.


Usage:The study aims to synthesize the data from all the trials to reach a definitive conclusion.
10.Underpin
Definition: support, justify, or form the basis for.
Usage: These principles underpin our approach to teaching and learning.
Their usage
1. Articulate:*Use this word to talk about your ability to express ideas. For example, "I believe I can
articulate my point of view on this topic effectively."
2. Contextualize: When discussing an issue, use this term to show that you understand the broader
picture. "To contextualize my love for reading, it's important to know that my parents are both
writers."
3. Disseminate: This word can be used when discussing the spreading of information. "Social media
platforms are tools used to disseminate both useful information and misinformation."
4. Epitome: Use this word to describe something or someone as the perfect example of a quality or
type. "My grandmother is the epitome of resilience and strength."
5. Hypothesize: You can use this word when making an educated guess about something. "If I were
to hypothesize, I'd say that climate change will be the most pressing issue in the next decade."
6. Innovate: Use this term while talking about creating something new or making changes to
something existing. "I believe the only way to solve this problem is to innovate."
7. Proliferate: This word is useful when talking about the rapid increase or spread of something. "In
the digital age, online businesses have proliferated."
8. Reiterate: You can use this word to emphasize a point you've made. "Let me reiterate that climate
change is a serious issue that needs immediate attention."
9. Synthesize: Use this term when discussing the combination of various elements into a whole.
"The report synthesizes data from a variety of sources to provide a comprehensive view of the
situation."
10. Underpin: This word can be used to discuss the foundation or basis of something. "My belief in
the importance of hard work underpins my approach to my studies."
The C.E.C. Strategy for IELTS Speaking
Core (C): This is your initial response, where you directly answer the question. It should be concise
and clear.

Elaborate (E): Here, you develop your initial response by providing additional information,
examples, or reasons. This is an opportunity to showcase your range of vocabulary and command of
the language.
Close (C): Finally, you summarise your thoughts and restate your main point. This should bring your
response to a coherent and satisfying conclusion without introducing new information.
Part 1
Example 1 for IELTS Speaking Part 1
Question: Do you like reading books?
Core (C): Yes, I have a strong fondness for reading books.
Elaborate (E): I find them to be a rich source of knowledge and an excellent way to relax and escape
everyday stress.
Close (C): So, reading books is certainly one of my favorite pastimes.
Example 2 for IELTS Speaking Part 1:
Question: What's your favorite type of music?
Core (C): I'm particularly fond of classical music.
Elaborate (E): The complexity and emotional depth of classical compositions really captivate me.
Close (C): Therefore, classical music holds a special place in my musical preferences.
Example 3 for IELTS Speaking Part 1:
Question: Do you prefer the city or the countryside?
Core (C): I have a distinct preference for the countryside.
Elaborate (E): I enjoy the tranquility and the connection with nature that the countryside offers.
Close (C): Thus, the countryside is my preferred setting due to its peaceful and natural environment.
Example 4 for IELTS Speaking Part 1:
Question: Do you enjoy sports?
Core (C): Yes, I have a keen interest in sports, particularly playing tennis.
Elaborate (E): I relish the physical challenge it provides and the strategic thinking it necessitates.
Close (C): So, sports, especially tennis, play a significant role in my leisure activities.
Example 5 for IELTS Speaking Part 1:
Question: What type of movies do you prefer?
Core (C): I have a predilection for mystery and suspense films.
Elaborate (E): I enjoy trying to unravel the plot and anticipate the story's twists and turns.
Close (C): Therefore, mystery and suspense genres captivate me the most in cinema.

Example 6 for IELTS Speaking Part 1:

Core (C): I particularly admire the autumn season.
Elaborate (E): I'm captivated by the vibrant colours of the leaves and the pleasant, mild weather.
Close (C): Thus, autumn is my favourite season due to its unique beauty and agreeable climate.
Part 3
Example 1 for IELTS Speaking Part 3:
Question: What impact does social media have on interpersonal relationships?
Core (C): Social media has profoundly influenced interpersonal relationships, often blurring the lines
between our digital and physical interactions.
Elaborate (E): On one hand, it has made it easier than ever to stay connected with friends and family
across the globe, which has been especially beneficial during times of physical distancing. On the
other hand, the constant availability and the pressure to maintain an idealized online persona can
sometimes take a toll on mental health and genuine human connection.
Close (C): Thus, while social media has certainly enhanced our ability to connect, it also presents

Example 2 for IELTS Speaking Part 3:
