Activity 3
1. Can you say that you will learn more by believing in
opinion? Why or why not?

I can say that we will not learn more by

believing in opinions for the reason that they are not certain.
According to Plato, we remain ignorant when we rely on
opinions since they are based on appearances and not
reality. I agree with Plato ‘cause I believe opinions can be
doubted and are often confused in thought. Appearances
which are the basis of opinion are not reliable.
By believing in opinion, we will not learn more
since opinion can never count as knowledge
because fantasy-based belief can never be knowledge.
However, if we claim that our opinions are true, we should
have an explanation about it. We can learn from our opinions
only if they pass a test of verification.
Instead of believing in the opinions that can
mislead us, we should believe in facts since we will learn
more in it. Fact is preferable to opinion. Facts are the
opposite of the opinion, facts are indubitable, certain or
cannot be doubted. They are the statements that can be
proven true or false but the opinions are based on personal
views that can't be trusted. Facts are clear and distinct ideas
and that’s why they should be the one to believe and be the
foundation of knowledge.
Thus, we should know the real from the illusory
to avoid being deceived. We need to see beyond the
material world through the use of our intellect. Our intellect
alone enables us to surpass appearances and see the truth.
2. Is there an instance that you have been deceived?
How and what did you learn from that experience?

In my whole life, I know that I have been

deceived and for sure I was deceived many times when I
was a kid. Hence, yes, there’s an instance that I have been
deceived, even in the little things. I believed something that
is not true.
Things on social media are the one who often
deceive me. I remember that I believed in fake K-pop dating
news, BLACKPINK’s Rosé and GOT7’s Mark. The two idols
became the talk of the world of K-pop since multiple
similarities were spotted in their photos visiting Paris while
the two take part in the Paris Fashion Week. Fans were
quick to make up a ‘couple goals‘ pairing. Thus, I believed
the spreading rumor that was based on those social media
“proofs.” I have considered the fans’ opinions true.
However, the idol may have seen the rumors
spreading online, and he uploaded a random tweet on
Twitter. Because of that, fans think the idol has spoken
directly to the shippers and asked them to stop.
Therefore, I learned that I should check first if
that is a fact or fake and don’t trust opinions that are
uncertain. I learned to trust only official sources and before
sharing the news to my friends, I should make sure it is
trustworthy. Plus the most important thing is that I realize
to mind my own business. Even though I am a fan of them I
should not interfere with others’ lives.
