win a European trophy – a victory made all the sweeter
by doing so at the home of their arch-rivals, AEK.

At Brommapojkarna, Gyokeres
gradually adjusted to his new
environment. Coming from a semi-

a while to slot into the team, but when
he did he showed the kind of form that
Sporting supporters have witnessed in
his debut season. In total, Gyokeres
played two seasons under Savic and
scored 28 goals in 27 appearances.

was why he was flagged as a
player with the potential to be
promoted to Brommapojkarna’s

relegated to Sweden’s third tier.
After relegation, Brommapojkarna
underwent major changes at first-team

Gyokeres was promoted

“Being relegated absolutely helped
him get more first-team opportunities,”
Savic says. “It was crucial for him. The
gap between Under-19 football and the
third tier is not huge, so it was easy for
him. That year he scored a lot of goals,
and he was a key player for
Brommapojkarna.”
In his debut season, Gyokeres
scored seven goals in 19 league
games and helped Brommapojkarna
earn promotion back to Sweden’s
second tier, where the young forward
really exploded onto the scene. With
