Question2
A). Give an explanation about the international travel organisations (Merit)

Q1.IATA (International Air Transport Association)

Answer:

Founded in 1945, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) was established by airlines
to address the anticipated challenges in expanding civil air services post-World War II. It
succeeded the International Air Traffic Association, initiated in 1919. IATA is a non-
governmental organization with legal existence derived from a special Act of the Canadian
Parliament in December 1945. IATA collaborates closely with the International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO). As the Chicago Convention did not establish consensus on the economic
regulation of the airline industry, IATA was formed to fill this void and provide a mechanism for
international air carriers to fix prices.
IATA is voluntary, non-exclusive, non-political, and democratic, with membership open to any
operating company licensed to provide scheduled air service by a government eligible for ICAO
membership. Airlines engaged in international operations are ACTIVE MEMBERS, while those
offering domestic services are ASSOCIATE MEMBERS. Initially, IATA operated as a cartel to
set a fixed fare structure, avoiding price competition. The first Traffic Conference in 1947
reached unanimous agreement on 400 resolutions, half of which were related to establishing a
uniform tariff structure for international air transportation.

UFTAA (Universal Federation of Travel Agents' Associations)

Answer:

The Universal Federation of Travel Agents' Associations (UFTAA) was founded in 1996
through the merger of the International Federation of Travel Agencies (IFTA) and the Universal
Organization of Travel Agents Association (UOTAA). UFTAA represents travel agents
worldwide, encompassing about 32,000 travel agencies with over half a million employees
handling 70% of international airline bookings.

Aims of UFTAA:

 Unite and reinforce national associations and organizations of travel agents.

 Act as the sole representative of the travel agency profession at international and
worldwide levels.
 Ensure maximum cohesion, prestige, protection, and development in the economic,
juridical, and social spheres for the tourism trade economy.

PATA (Pacific Area Travel Association)

Answer:

Founded in 1951, the Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) aims to stimulate interest in the
Pacific region as a vacation destination and to develop, promote, and facilitate travel to various
Pacific locations. The association had 44 founding members, led by Lorrin Thurston, a
prominent newspaper publisher in Honolulu, who envisioned organizing travel from the West to
the Pacific Area systematically.

PATA's first conference was held in 1952, with its headquarters established in San Francisco in
1953. PATA has nine membership categories, including Active Government, Associate
Government, Active Carrier, Associate Carrier, Active Industry, Allied, Affiliated Allied,
Associate, and Sustaining. India, initially an Associate member since 1957, became a full-
fledged Active member in 1964.

ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization)

Answer:
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized technical agency of the
United Nations, created on April 4, 1947, to promote the safe and orderly development of civil
aviation worldwide. ICAO sets international standards and regulations necessary for air transport
safety, efficiency, and regularity. It serves as a medium for cooperation in all fields of civil
aviation among member nations and provides technical assistance to countries needing help
maintaining civil aviation facilities or meeting global standards.

Objectives of ICAO:

 Ensure the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation worldwide.
 Encourage aircraft design and operation for peaceful purposes.
 Meet global needs for safe, regular, efficient, and economical air transport.
 Respect the rights of contracting countries and ensure fair opportunities for international
airlines.
 Prevent economic waste caused by unreasonable competition.

Warsaw Convention

Answer:

The Warsaw Convention of 1929, an intergovernmental agreement with several amendments,

addresses the liability of airlines for death or injury to passengers and for loss, damage, or delay
of baggage and cargo in most international travel. The convention shifts the burden of proof from
the claimant to the carrier, requiring the carrier to prove it took all necessary measures to avoid
damage. The convention limits the airline's liability for loss or damage to checked baggage to
about £5 or $9 per pound or £200 (approx. $400) for unchecked hand baggage. Higher figures
apply on US flights.

Montreal Convention

Answer:

The Montreal Convention of 1999 (MC99) establishes airline liability in cases of death or injury
to passengers, as well as delay, damage, or loss of baggage and cargo. It unifies different
international treaty regimes covering airline liability, providing a single, universal treaty. MC99
facilitates the use of electronic documentation for shipments, reducing costs and increasing
efficiency. Global ratification of MC99 is an industry priority, offering fairer compensation and
greater protection for passengers and enabling faster and more efficient trade for shippers.

Chicago Convention

Answer:

The Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, concluded in 1944, governs relations
between states on technical and commercial aspects of international air transport. It covers
various topics, including flying over territories, customs, nationality of aircraft, facilitation
(customs, accident investigation, etc.), documents (certificates and licenses), international
standards and practices, and more.

B)The client is probing to find how knowledgeable you are in the Travel Industry, to see if you
are qualified enough to prepare this package for him. So he has put forward a new question for
you. Please write your response/s below. (Merit)

 “Can you please explain ‘the freedoms of the air’ with regard to my package? Which freedoms
are applicable to my route, using the route and airlines that you have chosen for my tour
package?

*Note – Please explain the different freedoms of the air and then present the applicable
freedoms which are achieved in the package(can use world map).

Answer- Understanding "Freedoms of the Air" for Your Travel Package

The freedoms of the air are a set of international agreements that govern how airlines operate
flights between countries. Knowing these freedoms helps understand the type of flights included
in your travel package. There are nine freedoms, but we'll focus on the most common ones
relevant to passenger travel.

The Nine Freedoms:

1. First Freedom: The right to fly over a country without landing. (Not directly applicable
to your package)
2. Second Freedom: The right to make a technical stop (e.g., refueling) in a foreign
country without picking up or dropping off passengers. (Possible depending on your
itinerary)
3. Third Freedom: The right to carry passengers or cargo from your home country to
another country. (Likely applies if the airline is from your starting country)
4. Fourth Freedom: The right to carry passengers or cargo from a foreign country back to
your home country. (Likely applies if the airline is from your starting country)
5. Fifth Freedom: The right to carry passengers or cargo between two foreign countries on
a flight from your home country and back. (Less common, but possible depending on the
route)

Applicable Freedoms in Your Package (using a hypothetical route):

Let's imagine your package includes a flight from New York (USA) to London (UK) with a
connecting flight to Paris (France) on a different airline before returning to New York. Here's a
breakdown of freedoms:

 New York to London: This falls under the Third Freedom if the airline is a US carrier.
They are carrying passengers from their home country (USA) to another (UK).
 London to Paris: This could be under Third Freedom again if it's the same airline,
assuming they have permission to operate this route between the UK and France.
 Paris to New York: This is unlikely to be Third Freedom for the airline operating this
leg. It's more likely to be Fourth Freedom for a European carrier, carrying passengers
from a foreign country (France) back to their home country (within Europe).

World Map Example:

Imagine a world map where your flight path is highlighted. If there's a direct flight from New
York to London, that would be Third Freedom. The connecting flight from London to Paris on a
different airline could be Third Freedom for that airline if it operates flights between those cities.
Paris to New York would depend on the airline's origin. If it's a European airline fulfilling Fourth
Freedom, the route wouldn't necessarily touch their home country.

Note: This is a simplified example. Bilateral agreements between countries can affect these
freedoms.

By understanding these freedoms, you can see the bigger picture of airline operations and how
your chosen route might be constructed. For a more specific answer about your actual travel
package, I'd need details on the airlines and route involved.

Question3.Why do you think your package is of good quality? Can you please elaborate?

Can you compare your package with a similar package of any other tour operator and tell the
client of the advantages of your package.(Distinction)

Note- Give the highlights, advantages of the packages including the relevant measures taken
while making the package and how all those measures has helped package and passenger
