Use on High-Strength Structural Bolts

Vale requires full compliance with regulatory standards issued by the Brazilian Department of
Labor and Employment, as per ordinance 3214, from June 8th, 1978, and its updates, as well
as full compliance with effective local legislation health and safety requirements.

Legal requirements shall always prevail over the requirements herein, except for the cases in
which the latter are more stringent.

5.0 DEFINITIONS

General definitions, common to the universe of project implementation, may be found on GU-
E-400.

6.0 SCOPE

The scope comprises the supply of pre-concreted, post-concreted, expansion, chemical and
special anchor bolts, in accordance with design, technical characteristics and procedures
described in this general specification and its corresponding technical requisition.

7.0 GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

Anchor bolts listed below may be used in Vale project implementation:

• Pre-concreted anchor bolts shall be executed along with their sustaining

bases;
• Post-concreted anchor bolts shall be concreted following the placement of
equipment or structure;
• Expansion anchor bolts or post-installed anchor bolts shall be used in
concrete structures, in pre-executed hole, through controlled expansion or
expansion through percussion;
• Chemical anchor bolts or post-installed anchor bolts shall be used in
concrete structures with the use of adhesive (chemical resin) or special
mortar, in a previously drilled hole.

GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR ANCHOR BOLTS EG - C - 403E
REV.

For installations in which local or environmental conditions, and the type of equipment require
special anchor bolts, the design shall detail and specify them, so as to comply with
equipment manufacturer requirements.

The use of two nuts shall be specified for anchor bolts intended to fastening:

• High vessels;
• Equipment with major alternated dynamic efforts, wherein tension reversal
may occur;
• Sliding supports for equipment.

The use of two nuts, counter-nut or pressure washer shall be defined by the designing
company and/or by equipment/structure supplier, as needed.

7.1 ANCHOR BOLT INSTALLATION

Anchor bolts shall be installed in compliance with requirements in documents ES-C-401 and
ES-C-403.

8.0 SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS

Anchor bolts for steel structures shall meet the requirements in document CP-S-501.

8.1 USE OF ANCHOR BOLTS

Based on their use, anchor bolts are classified as:

• General purpose anchor bolts;

• Anchor bolts for fastening equipment in steel structure buildings.

8.1.1 General Purpose Anchor Bolts

These are anchor bolts used to fasten small structures, such as platforms, piping support,
stairways, handrails and railings, light structural elements and others. J-type anchor bolts are
normally used (see Attachment A), unless otherwise specified.

Expansion or chemical anchor bolts may be used. Fastening details and load capacity shall
comply with manufacturer specifications.

8.1.2 Anchor Bolts for Fastening Equipment and Columns to Steel Structure Buildings

Anchor bolts are classified as:

• J-type bolts, as per Attachment A;

• Anchor bolts with anchor plate, as per Attachment B;
• Chemical anchor bolts:
- These anchor bolts, whose fastening details and load capacity shall be
as per manufacturer specification, may be used.

8.2 FABRICATION

The materials for anchor bolts, nuts, counter-nuts and washers, shall be chosen based on the
application. Unless otherwise determined, materials may be as specified in table 8.1.
