    Solidworks 2023-2024 Student Edition Installation Instructions

    Rev 1/12/2024

    Eligibility for SOLIDWORKS Community Access Licenses

    SOLIDWORKS Community Access licenses available at this website are provided only to:
    ● Students and Educators at academic institutions that have been authorized by Dassault Systèmes
    SolidWorks Corporation (“DS SolidWorks”) to offer SOLIDWORKS Community Access; and
    ● Students and Educators who have received Student Access for trial purposes.
    ● SOLIDWORKS Community Access also includes makers, hobbyists, military, and sponsored
    organizations
    You acknowledge that this agreement supplements and is governed by the Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks
    Corporation License Agreement (the “License Agreement”), which you have received with your download of
    SOLIDWORKS and which permits you to use SOLIDWORKS Community Access only for your own personal
    and academic purposes.
    You also confirm that (i) your academic institution (if applicable) has notified you of your eligibility to receive
    the appropriate SOLIDWORKS Community Access product (either Student Standard formerly SDK or Student
    Premium formerly SEK) and has provided you with either SDK-ID or SEK-ID for registration purposes; or (ii) a
    DS SolidWorks employee or a DS SolidWorks authorized value-added reseller (VAR) has provided you with a
    60-Day Trial ID.

    Any download and use of a SOLIDWORKS Community Access product by a person who is not eligible for
    such product shall constitute a violation of the License Agreement and applicable laws.

    Please note that the SOLIDWORKS Community Access product obtained from this web site differs from other
    versions of SOLIDWORKS software in that:
    ● The license for such product will expire in accordance with the terms of your download card or your
    academic institution's particular agreement with DS SolidWorks, and
    ● Files created with SOLIDWORKS Community Access contain an 'academic-use only' watermark.

    Installation Preparation

    1. Review system requirements for Solidworks: https://www.solidworks.com/support/system-requirements

    NOTE FOR MAC USERS: Solidworks is a Windows-only application (the 2023-2024 version requires
    Windows 10, 64-bit or Windows 11, 64 bit). To install it on a Mac, you have to first set up either Virtual
    Machine software OR Apple Boot Camp (on older Macs) to run Windows on your Mac.

    ● Option #1: Install a virtual machine application such as VMware Fusion or Parallels on your Mac to
    virtualize Windows. This is a convenient option to set up Windows on your Mac.
    ● Option #2: If you own an older Mac, you may be able to set up the Boot Camp utility on your Mac to
    install Windows directly on your Mac hardware (https://support.apple.com/boot-camp). Windows
    installed on Boot Camp may provide better Solidworks performance, but switching between Windows
    and Mac OS will require rebooting each time.
    ● Please note that you will also need a copy of Windows 10 to install into your virtual machine or Boot
    Camp.

    2. *Important* Completely uninstall any/all previous version of SOLIDWORKS that are on your computer.

    3. Make sure you have at least 20 GB of available disk space to properly install Solidworks.
    Solidworks Account Setup and Download

    1. Go to http://www.solidworks.com/SEK

    2. Enter your First Name, Last Name, Email and Stanford Affiliation.

    3. Select “YES” to the question “I already have a Serial Number that starts with 9020.”

    4. Select ‘2023’ (the newest version for 2023-24 academic year) or ‘2022-2023’ for the Academic Version of
    Solidworks. Our current license does NOT cover the 2024 version.

    5. Click ‘Request Download”

    6. Read “Solidworks Community Access Initiative”

    7. Click “Accept and Continue.”

    8. Click “Download”

    9. The “Solidworks Installation Manager” (SolidWorksSetup.exe) file should now begin to download (about 30
    MB).

    Installation

    Note: Follow instructions and accept all defaults.

    1. Run the “Solidworks Installation Manager”, which will guide you through the installation process.

    2. Select “Install on this computer” as type of installation. Click the forward button “>” to continue.

    3. Enter the Stanford Solidworks SEK 2023 serial number: 9020 0057 2162 8597 6WCM SYFB
    Note: This license will only activate the Solidworks 2023 (2023-24) or 2022-2023 versions.

    4. Only select the “3D Design” Solidworks option. You do not need to select other add-ons as most are already
    included in the “3D Design” Solidworks option.

    5. Click the forward button “>” to continue.

    6. Select the checkbox “I accept the terms of Solidworks.”

    7. Click the “Download and Install” button. The downloaded file may be larger than 8GB. Download time will
    depend upon the speed of your internet connection. Final installation size may be greater than 20GB.

    8. Installation will automatically occur after download. Click Finish when installation is completed.

    9. You may be asked to restart your computer before running Solidworks for the first time.

    10. After you restart your computer, start Solidworks.

    11. When asked to activate the application, select “I want to activate my SOLIDWORKS product now” and
    click “Next.”

    12. Click “Select All” and “Automatically over the Internet (recommended)”, enter email address, and then click
    “Next.”
    13. Note all the Solidworks products and modules that were installed. Also note the expiration date of your
    Solidworks version. The 2023 (2023-24) or 2022-2023 version will expire 7/31/2025. At that time,
    Solidworks will need to be reinstalled with a new serial number. Click “Finish”.

    14. Click “Accept” for online license and services agreement.

    15. Solidworks will now start up and is ready to use.
