ABSTRACT
This study examines the impact of information technology (IT) on the accounting system at
Unilever Nigeria PLC, a leading multinational corporation in the consumer goods sector. The
research explores how IT integration has transformed accounting practices within the
organization, focusing on efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making. As businesses
increasingly rely on advanced technologies to streamline operations, the role of IT in
accounting has become crucial. This study investigates the extent to which IT has improved
the accounting system's performance at Unilever Nigeria PLC, contributing to better financial
reporting, data management, and overall organizational effectiveness.
The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing surveys and interviews with 70
employees and management staff within the accounting department at Unilever Nigeria
PLC’s head office in Lagos. The study’s findings indicate that IT integration has significantly
enhanced the efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes, leading to improved financial
decision-making. Moreover, the adoption of IT tools and software has facilitated real-time
data processing, reducing errors and enabling more accurate financial reporting.
This research highlights the critical role of IT in modern accounting systems, emphasizing its
impact on organizational performance and decision-making. The study provides valuable
insights for companies looking to leverage technology in their accounting practices, ensuring
competitiveness and sustainability in the dynamic business environment.
