1. Give 10 examples that follow the Golden ratio you can find in surroundings. Include
photographs and as well as estimates of the length and width or base and height for each example.
Explain how each example follows the Golden ratio. Use cm or mm scale. (40 points)
Examples that follow the Length/ Width/ Ratio EXPLANATION
Golden Ratio Height Base
Medicine mat 14.5 cm 9.1 cm 14.5/9.1 = While I’m finding something
1.59341 that is somehow unique, I
found this set of medicine
mats. It is my mother’s
medicine maintenance, and
the person who gets to age
needs to take care of
themselves by taking
medicine. Then I measured
the length and the width of
this mat I found out that this
goes after the Golden ratio
because it nearly approached
1.59341.
Novel Book 18.7 cm 11.7 cm 18.7/11.7 = As a book wormer, I have
1.59829 plenty of books on my
shelves, and to be honest, I
found out that not all books
are many approaches to the
golden ratio. That is a
challenge for me to check
more, and then this last book
of mine. It was given to me by
my cousin two years ago. I’m
surprised that this old book
was nearly approaching to
Golden Ratio. That is
1.59829, and it feels like I
won a bottle of my mind and

books.
Blood Sugar Testing kit 17.7 cm 11 cm 17.7/11 = I got this box from my

kit. And because Filipino have
this culture of keeping the
box as long as it is still
functional, keep it. Then I
tried to measure this box with
the hope that it is an
approach to Golden Ratio.
Fortunately, it is Golden Ratio
and closes to 1.61 because it
is a 1.60909.

above. Thus, I ended up
measuring this guide, but it is
difficult finding some unique
one to present here, and a bit
nervous that it might not be a
Golden Ratio. Luckily, it is
definitely a Golden Ratio
because I got 1.61224 which
approaches the exact 1.61.
Medicine Organizer 18.2 cm 11.5 cm 18.2/11.5 = Roaming around in our house,
1.58260 I’ve never seen a box which
was shaped in a rectangle and
symbolizes a golden ratio.
But, as I look within our
neighborhood, I saw one of
their displays which is this
medicine organizer, and tried
to get its size. Luckily, it is a
golden ratio, that is why I
have taken the opportunity to
ask for a permission if I can
take a picture while getting its
size for project purposes only,
and they agreed.

2. Collect 10 boxes and 10 cans or bottles of different labels. Measure the length/height and
width of the boxes. Measure the height and diameter of the cans or bottles. Compute the ratio of
each and write the measurement in the table. In each include photographs. Use cm or mm scale.

A. Are the ratios close to the golden ratio? Which ones are closed?
For Boxes: Every member collected and researched different sizes of boxes for this
activity. Each box was measured using a tape measure with a unit of centimeters. As a
result, all the measured boxes are approaching the golden ratio whereby
1.6180339887498. Yet among those boxes, the closest ratio for the Golden Ratio is_______,
which means that this box is an absolutely a golden rectangle. Moreover, according to Alex
Bellos (2015) in her book Adventures in Numberland Mathematics, the sides of the
rectangle in length side are 1.618, which is times the width size. Therefore, this box
belonged to the golden rectangle because it approached _______. And most probably, the
manufacturer of every box is intentionally created by using the golden ratio to make it an
apple of the eye of every consumer who passed over their virtual or actual store as a
marketing strategy of the company.
For Cans: For all the collection of cans that all the members gathered, some of these are
closely related with the golden ratio because of their sizes. If you will look closer, and
study it with a knowledge of knowing what golden ratio is, you will know that only one can
approaches the golden ratio. Each of these cans have different length and diameter, that is
why, they cannot all be considered as golden ratio. However, the ratio of each can signifies
which classification they belong, and what their sizes are. Furthermore, golden ratio is
significant in each and every individual’s life, for it allows us to be more aware of our
surroundings, and realize how Mathematics has already evaded the world, its people, and
all of the objects we see.
For Bottles: For every bottles that are collected, their measurements are far near the
golden ratio. As you can see their measurements are between 2 to 4 cm, they need to have a
measurement between 1.4 to 1.6 cm to be able to relate to the golden ratio. Bottles also
need to have a higher measurement of length and smaller measurement of width to meet
their required size.
Why do you think many consumer items/products follow the golden ratio?
Consumers follow the golden ratio in their products because to have a designs that is
proportioned and it attracts attention of the costumers due to their details and it
shows the importance of design. Without the design of the product it may distract the
costumers attention. The product also has to be enriched with highest possible
creativity to make it more interesting and appealing to the consumer. Using design
elements wisely designers can achieve solutions superior to the competition and
therefor ensure bigger market share for the product. Creativity plays big role in
process of product development (Hsiao & Chou, 2004).
3. Draw one Golden rectangle and its Golden spiral showing considerable number of cutouts. Color
each quarter circle drawn in each square. Label dimensions of square cutouts. (20 points)
