Abstract - The Augmented Reality Interior Design App is a cutting-edge mobile application designed to revolutionize
the way individuals envision and personalize their living spaces. Traditional interior design often relies on static images and
imagination, leading to uncertainty and dissatisfaction during the implementation phase. This app harnesses the power of
augmented reality to bridge this gap, offering users a dynamic and immersive experience that seamlessly blends the virtual
and real worlds. Modern interior design is a dynamic field, constantly evolving with new trends, materials, and user
preferences. As technology advances, Augmented Reality (AR) presents a powerful tool for transforming the way individuals
envision and personalize their living spaces. This abstract introduces an innovative AR-based interior design application
aimed at revolutionizing the interior design experience. By harnessing e capabilities of AR, users can visualize and interact
with virtual furniture, decor, and layouts in real-time, seamlessly integrating digital elements into their physical
surroundings. This app offers an intuitive and immersive platform for users to experiment with various design possibilities,
ensuring that every decision aligns perfectly with their style and functional needs. From choosing the ideal color palette to
arranging furniture in real dimensions, this AR app empowers users to make informed design choices while bridging the gap
between imagination and reality.

1 INTRODUCTION

The user must physically walk into the room each time he or she wishes to inspect the room from a different
angle. Several systems have been proposed to switch between AR and virtual reality (VR) modes and allow you to
move around the approach in VR mode. Augmented reality technology is divided into two types: AR based on
marker and AR without marker.[1] The project is based on marker-free AR. Project is a mobile application for
Android, which will be compatible with all current and future versions of Android phones. The user has to install the
application and run it on Android phone or tablet. Then place markers on the floor in the required locations. Launch
an application that will launch the camera. Project the camera on the marker. The marker will be detected, the
coordinates of the marker will be calculated, and three-dimensional objects will be dynamically generated above the
marker.[4]

Augmented reality applications typically are either marker-based or markerless. A marker is an image that
the device camera can detect, and once detected, a virtual scene is shown on top of it. Marker-less applications,
instead of detecting a pre-defined image, detects real-world objects, such as trees.[3] We combine theory and
business application by applying augmented reality methodology to interior or exterior design.

1.1 Evolution of Technology in Interior Design

Advancements in technology have continually influenced the field of interior design, revolutionizing
traditional practices and methodologies. From the introduction of computer-aided design (CAD) software to the
integration of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) tools, the evolution of technology has provided
designers with innovative means to conceptualize and visualize interior spaces. These technological developments
have not only streamlined the design process but have also expanded the possibilities for creativity and
experimentation within the discipline.

In recent decades, the interior design industry has witnessed a remarkable evolution driven by
advancements in technology. Historically rooted in manual drafting techniques and physical models, the discipline
has gradually transitioned towards digital tools and software solutions. The advent of computer-aided design (CAD)
software in the late 20th century marked a significant milestone, allowing designers to create precise and detailed
floor plans, elevations, and 3D models with unprecedented efficiency. Furthermore, the integration of augmented
reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies has transformed the way designers conceptualize and present their
ideas. AR applications enable users to overlay virtual furnishings and decorations onto real-world environments,
offering clients a realistic preview of potential design schemes. Similarly, VR simulations immerse users in fully
interactive virtual environments, providing an immersive experience that transcends traditional renderings and
blueprints.

2 DESIGN METHODOLOGY AND IMPLEMENTATION

2.1 Methodology

The primary focus is on creating an intuitive and user-friendly app interface that provides a
compelling and immersive AR design experience. The app will leverage ARCore for Android or ARKit for iOS to
enable real-time spatial mapping and object recognition, ensuring accurate and realistic placement of virtual
furniture and decor in the physical environment. The app will integrate a diverse catalog of 3D models and textures,
allowing users to browse and select virtual furniture and decor items from a wide range of options. Users will have
the freedom to interact with the virtual objects, move them around, resize, and customize to match their interior
design preferences. This interactive design feature will empower users to experiment with various design concepts
and arrangements, fostering creativity and innovation in the interior design process.Throughout the development
process, user testing and feedback will play a pivotal role, informing iterative improvements to optimize
performance and usability. The app will act as a decision-making support tool, helping users make informed choices
by visualizing different design possibilities in their physical space.

2.2 System Design

The system primarily uses a mobile phone's built-in camera, which supports augmented reality, to
collect images as a real image of the scene seen by the human eye, and three dimensional models of furniture on the
display screen It puts First, we need to configure views in Unity 3D for the selection of the user interface of the
application, such as buttons, text fields, background image, and virtual objects. We later create 3D models from
Autodesk Maya and import them into Unity 3D.

By identifying and tracking surface area, the camera retrieves pointers using the Google AR core and
sets the projection model, eventually putting the imported three-dimensional virtual model into a real-world view.
Since Android smart phones have a touch screen interface function, we can place the furniture on the sliding screen.

2.3 Working Mechanism

Figure 2 Workflow of AR Camara

It includes:

1. Sensors: AR devices, such as smartphones or specialized AR glasses, use various sensors to understand the
real-world environment. These sensors may include cameras, GPS sensors.

2. Computer Vision: The device captures real-time data from its sensors, which is then processed by computer
vision algorithms. These algorithms analyze the input to identify objects, surfaces, and the spatial
relationships between them.

3. Registration: Once the device understands the real-world environment, it "registers" the virtual objects or
information to the appropriate locations in this environment. This ensures that the virtual elements align
correctly with the physical world.

4. Display: The registered virtual elements are then superimposed onto the user's view of the real world. This is
usually displayed on the device's screen (in the case of smartphones) or directly in the user's field of view
(with AR glasses).

5. Real-Time Tracking: AR systems often continuously track the user's movements and the changes in the
environment. This real-time tracking helps to maintain the alignment of virtual elements with the real world,
providing a consistent and immersive experience.

6. User Experience: AR applications can vary widely, from gaming and entertainment to education,
navigation, industrial design, medical training, and more. The user experience depends on the quality of the
device, the accuracy of tracking, the realism of virtual objects, and the overall design of the AR application.
3 FUTURE SCOPE

 Expanded Catalog and Customization: Enhance the app by continuously updating and expanding the
catalog of virtual furniture and decor items. Additionally, provide users with more customization
options, such as color variations, materials, and styles, to cater to diverse design preferences.
 Collaborative and Social Features: Introduce collaborative features that allow multiple users to design
and visualize together in real-time. Implement social sharing functionalities to enable users to showcase
their designs and seek feedback from friends and peers.
 Integration with E-commerce Platforms: Explore integration with e-commerce platforms to facilitate
seamless purchasing of virtual furniture and decor items directly from the app. This feature will bridge
the gap between virtual and physical shopping experiences, providing a holistic interior design solution
for users.
