INTRODUCTION
Hello and welcome to “Speak German like a Native”!

My name is Ingo Depner and I’m a professional German teacher with more than 15 years experience.
I’m also the founder of German Online Gym, a dynamic e-Learning portal exclusively dedicated to
German language and culture training.

In order to become a fluent German speaker it’s not enough to learn grammar and vocabulary. You
need to know how native speakers build sentences and use them in their conversations. This book
provides you with exactly that knowledge. It includes hundreds of sentences that can be used in
typical everyday situations, divided into three main topics:

1) Making Friends
2) Shopping, Food & Services
3) Speaking on the Phone

With the help of this book you will be able to express yourself exactly like a German native speaker
would. You will be able to speak with confidence, because you know that these sentences are correct
and you will be more fluent, because you won’t have to look for words or translate what you want to
say from your native language into German.

"Speak German like a Native" is perfect if you want to:

 be able to express yourself in perfect German

 say the right thing at the right time
 boost your conversation skills
 speak German with confidence

One word about the set-up of the course: It is not linear in its philosophy, but offers a broad range of
topics. That's why you don't necessarily need to study one lesson after the other, but you can choose
a lesson that is of interest and start right there. It is perfectly fine to jump from lesson 2 to lesson 16,
then back to 8 and from there to lesson 25.

You will notice that the English version of the German sentences is not always an exact translation.
This is done in order to provide you with common expressions that a native German speaker would
use, and sometimes a literal translation wouldn't sound natural. The meaning, however, will be the
same.

And now I invite you to jump right into your first lesson and in less time than you expect you will
speak German like a native!
SECTION 1: MAKING FRIENDS
Unless stated otherwise, I have used informal language in this section as I think that when
making friends most people use “Du”. Having said that, in several chapters you can find the
polite forms in brackets.
