COMPUTER ENGINEERING CURRICULUM

II. LESSON TITLE

Computer Engineering Curriculum

III. LESSON OVERVIEW

This lesson discusses an overview of Computer Engineering Curriculum, course specifications,

curriculum map and competencies.
Understanding the legal basis and nature of the computer engineering program helps the student
appreciate the career he decided to take.

IV. DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
• Understand the Computer Engineering Curriculum
• Value the sustainability and impact of engineering work

V. LESSON CONTENT

“As you may begin a trip with no final destination in mind, you could live your life without
identifying its real purpose.”

As you start your journey in Computer Engineering, you should understand the purpose
of this engineering field. The legal basis of the program is CHED Memorandum No. 87 Series
of 2017 with a subject Policies, Standards and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Science in
Computer Engineering (BSCpE) Effective (AY) 2018-2019.
The implementation of this CHED Memorandum was started from AY 2018-2019. The
first batch were the graduates of K-12 Curriculum. Here are the highlights of the memorandum:

▪ Article II-Authority to Operate

▪ Section 2. Government Recognition
- All Higher Education Institutions must first secure proper authority from the
CHED
(The NVSU particularly the Computer Engineering Department of the College of
Engineering has acquired a Certificate of Program Compliant from CHED. This
certificate is a proof that our University has the right to offer the program.
Computer Engineering program was first offered in 1997)

▪ Article III - General Provisions

- The higher education institution shall exercise academic freedom in its
curricular offerings but must comply with the minimum requirements for
specific academic programs, the general education distribution
requirements and the specific professional courses.

Sustainability Assessment (ISA)

▪ Article IV- Program Specifications

o Section 5-Program Description

5.1-Degree Name
Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE)
5. 2 Nature of the Field of Study
The BSCpE is a program that embodies the science and technology of
design, development, implementation, maintenance and integration of
software and hardware components in modern computing systems and
computer-controlled equipment.
5.3 Characteristics of Computer Engineering Graduates
• Possess the ability to design computers, computer-based systems and
networks that include both hardware and software and their integration
to solve novel engineering problems, subject to trade-offs involving a
set of competing goals and constraints. In this context, “design” refers
to a level of ability beyond “assembling” or “configuring” systems.
• Have a breadth of knowledge in mathematics and engineering
sciences, associated with the broader scope of engineering and
beyond that narrowly required for the field.
• Acquire and maintain a preparation for professional practice in
engineering.

▪ BS COMPUTER ENGINEERING PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Through their careers in computer engineering or related profession,
the NVSU graduates of Computer Engineering Program are expected
to demonstrate the following, within three to five years after graduation:
o Have advanced their practice or achievement in the field of
Computer Engineering and/or other activities supported by their
acquired computer engineering education;
o Strive to be globally competitive through living by the NVSU
vision, mission and values, pursuing continuing education or
membership in professional organizations to keep abreast of
the contemporary issues in Computer Engineering, and
practicing continuous quality development in their personal
lives;
o Continuously scanning, embracing, and building on the best
practices in Computer Engineering.
o Engage in continuous self-improvement, personal enrichment
and professional development through research and entering
and succeeding in an advanced degree program in Computer
Engineering and Allied field.
