E – COMMERCE
Introduction of e_ commerce
E-commerce, short for electronic commerce, refers to the buying and selling
of goods and services over the internet. It has revolutionized the way
businesses operate, allowing them to reach a global audience and operate
24/7. The introduction of e-commerce has led to increased convenience for
consumers and has significantly impacted traditional brick-and-mortar retail.
According to Statista, global e-commerce sales are projected to reach $6.38
trillion by 2024.
There are several types of e-commerce models, each catering to different
types of transactions and participants. Here are some common types:
1. Business-to-Consumer (B2C): This is perhaps the most well-known type,
where businesses sell products or services directly to consumers. Examples
include online retailers like Amazon and Walmart.
2. Business-to-Business (B2B): In this model, businesses sell products or
services to other businesses. This could include manufacturers selling to
wholesalers or wholesalers selling to retailers.
3. Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C): This type of e-commerce involves
transactions between individual consumers. Examples include online
marketplaces like eBay and Craigslist, where individuals can buy and sell
goods to each other.
4. Consumer-to-Business (C2B): In this model, individual consumers offer
products or services to businesses. Examples include freelancers offering
their services on platforms like Upwork or Fiverr.
5. Business-to-Administration (B2A): This type of e-commerce involves
transactions between businesses and public administrations. For example,
businesses paying taxes online or submitting procurement bids
electronically.
6. Consumer-to-Administration (C2A): This involves transactions between
individual consumers and public administrations. Examples include paying
for parking tickets or renewing driver's licenses online.
Each type of e-commerce has its own characteristics and target audience,
and businesses may participate in one or more of these models depending
on their products, services, and target market.
