Mum: Hi, Ben. How’s India?
Ben: Hi, Mum. India’s great. I’m in a film right now.
Mum: That’s nice. What film are you watching?
Ben: I’m not watching a film. I’m IN a film.
Mum: What?
Ben: I’m an extra on the set of a Bollywood film.
Mum: How did that happen?
Ben: Well, I went to a restaurant yesterday and while I was leaving, a man stopped me and offered me the part of an extra in
his film.
Mum: That’s amazing!
Ben: I know. Anyway, I was told to come to the restaurant this morning and there were about 20 tourists waiting there like
me. Then a van took us to a film studio.
Mum: Sounds incredible! Bollywood is like Hollywood but Mumbai style, right?
Ben: Actually, Bollywood is much bigger than Hollywood. It’s the biggest film industry in the world!
Mum: Wow! So are extras given money for their performance? What about food?
Ben: Don’t worry, Mum. Extras are paid. Breakfast was provided this morning, too.
Mum: Good, so tell me … what’s the plot? Has it got lots of action?
Ben: No, it’s a romantic comedy. Ranveer, the hero, falls in love with Vaani, the heroine. Then they have some problems,
but in the end, the problems are solved and they live happily ever after.
Mum: A modern-day fairy tale.
Ben: And a musical. Most of the film is singing and dancing. Bollywood films are known for that.
Mum: Do you sing?
Ben: No, you know I can’t sing. But I do dance. I’m playing a tourist in one of the scenes. Oh, I have to go now. The director
is calling us.
Mum: OK, good luck!
