Day 1: Kolkata to Darjeeling

1. Travel to Darjeeling:
○ By Train: Board an overnight train from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
■ Recommended train: Darjeeling Mail (12343), departing from Kolkata
(SDAH) at 10:05 PM and arriving at NJP around 8:00 AM the next day.
○ By Car/Taxi: From NJP, hire a taxi to Darjeeling (approximately 3 hours).
2. Arrival in Darjeeling:
○ Check into your pre-booked hotel.
○ Start exploring Darjeeling on the same day.

Day 2-4: Stay in Darjeeling

● Day 2: Explore Darjeeling:


○ Visit Tiger Hill for sunrise.
○ Explore Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop.
○ Visit the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train).
● Day 3: Sightseeing:
○ Visit Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and Himalayan Mountaineering
Institute.
○ Explore the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre.
○ Visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda.
● Day 4: Leisure and Local Experiences:
○ Visit Happy Valley Tea Estate.
○ Stroll around Mall Road and Chowrasta.
○ Travel from Darjeeling to NJP/Siliguri Junction:
■ Start in the evening by 6:00 PM.
■ Hire a taxi from Darjeeling to NJP/Siliguri Junction. The journey takes
approximately 3 hours.
■ If there is a train available from NJP/Siliguri Junction to Hasimara that
night, take the train and stay overnight in Hasimara.
■ If no suitable train is available: Check into a hotel at NJP/Siliguri
Junction and stay overnight. The next day, take the morning train to
Hasimara.

Day 5: Hasimara to Jaigaon (Phuentsholing, Bhutan Border)

1. Travel from Hasimara to Jaigaon:


○ From Hasimara Railway Station, hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to Jaigaon. The
journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
2. Explore Phuentsholing (Bhutan Border):
○ Cross the border to Phuentsholing, Bhutan by 8 AM.
○ Obtain necessary permits at the Immigration Office.
○ Take a tour guide (hire a taxi) and explore Bhutan.
○ Return to Jaigaon by 8 PM.
○ Stay overnight either in Jaigaon or Hasimara.
Day 6: Hasimara/Alipurduar

1. Explore Hasimara/Alipurduar:
○ Depending on the available time, explore nearby places such as Jaldapara
National Park or Buxa Fort.
○ Check out from the hotel and prepare for the return journey.
2. Travel to Kolkata:
○ Board the Kanchankanya Express (13150) from Hasimara or Alipurduar Junction,
depending on the convenience.
■ Departure from Alipurduar Junction: 4:00 PM
■ Departure from Hasimara: 4:40 PM
■ Arrival in Kolkata (SDAH): 8:15 AM the next day.

Notes:
● Accommodation: Ensure all accommodations are pre-booked to avoid last-minute
hassles.
● Permits for Bhutan: Indian citizens need an entry permit to visit Bhutan, which can be
obtained at the Phuentsholing border. Carry valid identification (passport, voter ID).
● Travel Insurance: Consider travel insurance for safety and emergencies.
● Train Tickets: Book train tickets in advance, especially for overnight journeys, to secure
confirmed seats/berths.
● Train schedule: Check train schedules regularly for any changes or cancellations.
● Weather: Carry an umbrella or raincoat if traveling during the monsoon season.
