According to PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority), unemployment rate ticked up to 4.5% in June,
increasing the country’s total number of unemployed Filipinos to 2.3 million.
Today, we stand before you to shed light on the pressing issue of unemployment and its profound effects
on society. Unemployment, or the state of being without work can have profound repercussions beyond
just the individuals. We do have various opportunities and a massive amount of workforce to utilize, yet
we’re still suffering, but what makes it an issue? Does it affect the country? How does it impact the living
condition of the majority? The problems rely on the high standards of work. We indeed live in a world
abundant with possibilities and a workforce brimming with talent. Yet, it is disheartening to witness a
mismatch between the high standards expected from these hardworking individuals and the unjust
compensation they receive.
Unemployment hinder economic growth, and for certain reasons, fewer individuals contribute to
productive activities resulting to the increased of dependency on social welfare programs. Because of
high standards, people have no choice, but to engage in illegal actions just to survive. Robbery,
Kidnapping, and worst, Murder. The frustrating situations and the lack of opportunities to grow urge
mankind to take part in opportunities opposing the law. The illegalities that some of us hold onto just to
satisfy their needs. Providing short-term benefits and long-term consequences.
Unemployment is not the problem. The problem is underpayment. Why is unemployment a social issue?
Basically, it is because of poverty, lack of knowledge, lack of technology, and lack of education. Always
remember that unemployment is one of the reasons why our country is experiencing poverty. We need
to take action on this social issue. In our country, if you are not a college graduate, you don’t have
enough opportunities, and if you are a college graduate or have a degree, you have many opportunities,
but don’t expect that your salary is enough. Even if you are employed or unemployed, always remember
that you only fail when you stop trying.
To lessen the underlying dilemma, the government must participate in promoting fair working conditions
and providing some level of economic security for workers and employees if it is to support long-term
growth and economic recovery, revitalize the nation's once-vibrant labor market, and support long-term
growth. They must give workers an income that will be fair for the degree of difficulty of their jobs and
allow them to meet their basic needs. It also gives assurance that the risks that they take will be
bounded by how they are paid. To ensure social fairness, employers must pay livable wages to all
employees. Overall, it is based mainly on the best efforts they put into their tasks.
If work fair existed in the country, or maybe that "already existed," there might be a change in the
country. Imagine if these conditions existed in our country, I'm going to say that a lot of us students were
able to secure the life that we ever wanted. All we were going to do was listen to our teacher and finish
this school stuff. It gives us all, the students, the hope to continue, thinking that there is a future in this
country if we pursue the degree that we wanted to. Also, there is a possibility that people will not think
to leave the country and go overseas because some of the factors that cause this thinking are the low
income that we don't deserve and sometimes the benefits that promises end up being nailed. And if
these conditions promoted by the government were to be true, those negative mindsets of the Filipinos
on why they wanted to go to another country must be gone. In short, if this work in fair condition was
supported by the government, there might be development not just in the society or even the economy
but in the futures of all the people in a country that hold the hopes and desire for the changes.
