CHAPTER 2 AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT

2.1 INDOOR UNITS

2.1.1 WALL MOUNTED DECORATIVE UNITS

The indoor units shall be exposed decorative type capacities as shown in the drawings. The base / mounting
plate of the units shall be fabricated from galvanized steel sheet and shall be easily mountable. The
removable front panel should be flat with factory built in louvers to facilitate supply and return air. The
coil shall be made from copper tubing with mechanically bonded aluminum fins. The fan shall be
centrifugal, direct driven, double inlet type with two impellers.

The impellers and scrolls shall be made in shockproof material to guarantee maximum stability during
transport and installation. The impeller shall be having airfoil blades.

The motor shall be permanent split capacitor type single phase and shall be totally enclosed. The units
shall be complete with remote control kit consisting mainly of multi speeds & off switch and a thermostat.
Return air filters shall be permanent, washable type as recommended by the same manufacturer.

2.1.2 Ceiling Concealed (Split Ducted)

Air handling unit shall be of horizontal concealed type.

The air handling basic unit shall consist of cooling coil, one or more centrifugal fans, electric motor
condensate drain pan, and galvanized steel casing and electric junction box.

Air will be discharged by the centrifugal fans which shall be of the forward curved non-overloading type to
the front of the unit to allow for field supply ductwork and air outlets to distribute the air into the room.
Return air will be brought to the rear of the unit to allow for the return air to be either ducted from room or
taken from the ceiling void. The fans shall be statically and dynamically balanced and specially designed
for quiet operation.

3

The motor shall be three speed built-in and resiliently mounted with adjustable mounting or two speed for
units larger than 20KW , as recommended by the manufacturer.
The motor is capable of five stage external static pressure conversions up to 125 PA.

The condensate drain pan shall be constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel adequately treated against
corrosion, insulated and pitched for positive drainage with the unit-installed level. The basic unit casing
shall be constructed from galvanized steel plate partially insulated with closed cell expanded urethane
foam.

The unit shall be provided with washable filter or as recommended by the manufacturer, mounted on the
box enclosure of the unit in a sealed way to prevent air by passing.
Face velocity through filter/ coil not to exceed 500 F.P.M.

2.1.3 CONDENSING UNITS (OUTDOOR UNITS)

The condensing units shall be of the air-cooled type, designed for use with refrigerant R-410 A for cooling
of capacity as shown in the drawings and schedule .Equipment to be located as shown in the drawings and
shall have pre-charged refrigerant (R – 410A) for the complete system with refrigerant line fittings. Brass
service valves shall be located at the exterior of the unit.

The condenser coil shall be constructed of aluminum fins mechanically bonded to copper tubing.

Condenser fan shall be direct driven propeller type and arranged for horizontal discharge. Fan hub shall be
designed to protect motor shaft, bearing and winding. Fan motor shall be factory lubricated and inherently
protected. The whole units shall be housed in a weatherproof cabinet.

The compressor shall be of the fully hermetic rotary or scroll type electronically controlled / built-in
inverter modules that receive information/commands from sensors monitoring operating conditions and
adjust the rotation/spinning speed of compressor to directly regulates air conditioner output.
The electronic inverter through a linear expansion valve monitors the varying compressor motor speed and
creates the most efficent waveform for the motor speed to achive improvement in operating
efficency/cooling effect and saving in power consumption.

The compressor shall be equipped with internal vibration isolators and shall be located in an isolated
compartment of the unit to reduce the noise level. The compressor shall be equipped with accumulator,
strainer, surge absorber, internal thermostat for compressor motor, condenser& indoor fan motor and fuse.

All outdoor units to have capillary / outdoor expansion built in from the factory to facilitate optimum
performance at prevailing ambient conditions with ambient temperature sensors.

Field applied Site Glass and Filter dryers will be as per AC units manufacturers recommendation .

2.1.4 ROOM THERMOSTAT

 The thermostat will be wired controller from the same AC manufacturer with the minimum features
such as but not limited to, selector button will include for Start stop, Fan speed, Heat Cool mode
