BIOCUP: A STUDY OF
PRODUCING
BIOPLASTIC CUP USING
ALGAE
INTRODUCTION
• Environmental pollution is increasing day by day due to more plastic application.
Bottle, cups, utensils, containers, straw and furniture: these are only some examples of
products that are now manufactured and made with plastic (Parker, 2019).

• While plastic has many valuable uses, the world has become addicted to single-use plastic
products with severe environmental, social, economic and health consequences, and one
million plastic bottles are purchased globally every minute, whereas up to five trillion plastic
bags are used yearly.

In effort to combat the environmental problems caused by plastic pollution, Recently, it


was discovered that various microalgae promote biodegradation of polymers and the
energy required for degradation is reduced, since the synthesized enzymes with simple or
multiple to reduce the effects of toxins, activation energy should be weaken the chemical
bonds within the polymer.
Moreover, algae do not compete with the production of food for humans consume
food and are tolerant to harsh environmental circumstances, can clean up
wastewater, and use carbon dioxide as a source of nutrients for the growth of
biomass (Raouf et al,. 2012)
Statement Of the Conceptual
Problem Framework
The main purpose of this study is to produce
biodegradable plastic from algae as a
substitute for the conventional plastic and to
prove that algae could be used in the
production of the biodegradable plastic.
Specifically, this study aims to answer the
following problem:

1. How effective is the algae as a substitute


in production of biodegradable plastic?

2. How long does bioplastic made from


algae take to decompose than to
traditional
plastic?

3. How can algae be used in production of


alternative bioplastic to lessen the
problem of plastic waste?
Scope And
Delimitation
The study aims to produce biodegradable plastic from algae as a
substitute for the conventional plastic that helps decrease plastic
pollution and to create it with components that make them more
economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.
Furthermore, data gathering will be conducted in the academic year
2022–2023 with a limited amount of financial resources and
timeframe. This study will focus on the production of bioplastic cups
and will notinclude the other utensils

this research we prove that algae can be used in production of alternative
bioplastic to lessen the problem of plastic waste.
