CBSE_X_PHASE–I_(SET-B)_PHYSICS_DPT-3
Time: 45 Mins Max. Marks :20
General Instructions:
Read the following instructions very carefully and strictly follow them:
(i) This question paper comprises 9 questions. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) This question paper is divided into five sections – A, B, C, D and E.
(iii) Section A – Questions No. 1 to 4 are Multiple Choice Questions. Each question carries 1 mark.
(iv) Section B – Questions No. 5 to 6 are Very Short Answer type questions. Each question carries 2
marks. Answer to these questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
(v) Section C – Question No. 7 Short Answer type questions. Each question carries 3 marks.
Answer to these questions should in the range of 50 to 80 words.
(vi) Section D – Question No. 8 Long Answer type questions. Each question carries 5 marks.
Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
(vii) Section E – Question No. 9 source-based/case-based units of assessment carrying 4 marks each
with sub-parts.
(viii) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in some sections.
Only one of the alternatives has to be attempted in such questions.

SECTION-A (4 × 1M = 4M)
1. Rays from Sun converge at a point 15 cm in front of a concave mirror.
Where should an object be placed so that size of its image is equal to the
size of the object?
a) 15 cm in front of the mirror
b) between 15 cm and 30 cm in front of the mirror
c) 30 cm in front of the mirror
d) more than 30 cm in front of the mirror
2. Which of the following is the mirror formula?
1 1 1 uv 1 1 1
a)   b) f  c)   d) (b) & (c)
f v u uv f v u
3. What is the relation between the radius of curvature and the focal length?
2 R
a) f  b) R  2 f c) f  d) (b) & (c)
R 2
4. Assertion(A): Concave mirrors are used as make-up mirrors.
Reason (R) : When the face is held within the focus of a concave mirror,
then a diminished image of the face is seen in the concave
mirror..
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true but R is false.
d) A is false but R is true.

SECTION-B (2 × 2M = 4M)
5. Write any four daily life applications of spherical mirrors.
6. Define the principal focus of a concave mirror.
SECTION-C (1 × 3M = 3M)
7. Write the differences between concave and convex mirrors.

SECTION-D (1 × 5M = 5M)
8. (a) A convex mirror used for rear-view on an automobile has a radius of curvature
of 3.00 m. If a bus is located at 5.00 m from this mirror, find the position, nature
and size of the image. (3m)
(b) Draw ray diagram for the above condition. (2m)
(OR)
Draw ray diagrams showing the image formation by a concave mirror for the
following conditions. And write the nature of the image.
(a) Size of the image is equals to size if the object.
(b) Real diminished image.
SECTION-E (1 × 4M = 4M)
9. Manoj wanted to fix the rear-view mirror of his bike. He knows that the rear view
mirror is an essential safety device in the vehicle and allows him to see objects at
the backside of his vehicle.
He bought two mirrors M1 and M2, out of which M1 reflecting surface is curved
inwards and M2 reflecting surface is curved outwards.
a) Based on the given situation, which mirror should Manoj need to fix as his
rear-view mirror and why? (1m)

b) An object is placed at the centre of curvature of M1. Find the distance

between its image and pole. (1m)

c) Manoj did some preliminary experiment with mirror M1 and found that
magnification of the real image of an object placed at 10 cm in front of it is 3,
at what distance is the image located? (2m)

(OR)
An object is placed 60 cm in front of M2. The image formed by the mirror is
located 30 cm behind the mirror. What is the object’s magnification?
