SET-1
GRADE –X

General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A student is
expected to attempt only one of these questions.
iii. Section A consists of 16 MCQs and 04 Assertion-Reasoning type questions carrying 1 mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these questions
should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to these
questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts
of the values of 1/2/3 marks.

Q. SECTION - A Mark
No. Question 1 to 16 are multiple choice questions. Only one of the choices is correct. Select
and write the correct choice as well as the answer to these questions.

13. When an object is kept within the focus of a concave mirror, an enlarged image is formed 1
behind the mirror. This image is:
a. Real b. Inverted
c. Virtual and inverted d. Virtual and erect
14. To obtain a magnification of +2 with a concave mirror of radius of curvature 60 cm the 1
object distance must be
a. -90 cm b. -45 cm
c. -30 cm d. -15 cm
Question No. 17 to 20 consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer
these questions by selecting the appropriate option given below:
A. Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
B. Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.
C. A is true but R is false.
D. A is false but R is true
19. Assertion(A): A ray incident along normal to the mirror retraces its path. 1

Reason (R): In reflection, angle of incidence is always equal to angle of reflection.

SECTION – B
Question No. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions.
24. An object is kept at a distance of 30 cm in front of a concave mirror of focal length 20 cm. 2
Use mirror formula to determine the position and magnification of the image produced.
25. (a) Write the mathematical expression for Joule’s law of heating. 2
(b) Compute the heat generated while transferring 96000 coulomb of charge in two hours
through a potential difference of 40 V.
OR
An electric heater rated 1100 W operates at 220 V. Calculate (i) its resistance, and (ii) the
current drawn by it.
SECTION - C
Question No. 27 to 33 are short answer questions.
31. (a) Name the part of human eye that helps to focus near and distant objects in quick 3
succession. Explain its functioning.
(b) A person is advised to wear spectacles with concave lenses. What type of defect of
vision is he suffering from?
(c) State the function of iris in human eye.
32. (a) List the factors on which the resistance of a uniform cylindrical conductor of a given 3
material depends.
(b) The resistance of a wire of 0.01 cm radius is 10 Ω. If the resistivity of the wire is 50 x
10-8 Ωm, find the length of this wire.
33. With the help of a labelled circuit diagram, illustrate the pattern of the magnetic field lines 3
of the magnetic field produced around a straight current carrying conductor. Explain how,
with the help of right – hand thumb rule, we can determine and mark the direction of
magnetic field lines due to a current.
SECTION - D
Question No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions.
36. (a) Calculate the resistance of an copper wire of length 1 m and area of cross – section 2 5
mm2. Resistivity of copper is 1.7 x 10-5 Ωm.
(b) From the values given below, plot a graph of I versus V. Show that the data is in
conformity of the Ohm’s law.

OR
(i) What is meant by resistance of a conductor? Define its SI unit.
(ii) List two factors on which the resistance of rectangular conductor depends.
(iii) How will the resistance of a wire be affected if its
(a) length is doubled, and
(b) radius is also doubled?
Give justification for your answer.
SECTION - E
Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts.
Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
39. Study the data given below showing the focal length of three concave mirrors A, B, and C
and the respective distances of objects placed in front of the mirrors:
Case Mirror Focal length (cm) Object distance (cm)
1 A 20 45
2 B 15 30
3 C 30 20
(i) In which one of the above cases will the mirror form real image of same size and 1
why?
(ii) List to properties of the image formed in case 1. 1
(iii) Name the type of mirror used by dentists. Give reason why do they use such type of 2
mirrors.
OR
Look at the table and identify the situation (object distance and focal length) which
resembles the situation in which concave mirrors are used as shaving mirrors? Draw
a ray diagram to show the image formation in this case.
