LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

I. Curriculum Content, Standards, and Lesson Competencies

A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of Newton’s three laws of

motion and uniform circular motion
B. Performance The learners shall be able to develop a written plan and implement a
Standards “Newton’s Olympics”
C.1 Learning The learners should be able to investigate the relationship between the
Competencies amount of force applied and the mass of the object to the amount of change
in the object’s motion (S8FE-Ia-15)
C.2 Learning Targets At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. state the Newton’s laws of motion;
2. Create infographics to value situations of safety precautions of
Newton’s laws of motion in driving; and
3. Perform various activities involving Newton’s laws of motion
D. Topic Newton’s First Law of Motion: Law of Inertia
E. Integration 1. Mathematics. Calculate the forces acting on objects and how these
forces relate to their inertia
2. Art. Create infographics to value situations of safety precautions of
Newton’s laws of motion in driving

III. Teaching and
Learning Procedure
A. Activating Prior 1. The learners will recall the discussion about force and motion
Knowledge 2. The learners will define what is force, and motion and identify the
characteristics of force.
3. After that, learners will have a short activity where they will observe
how inertia works using coins, a ruler, and a paper cup.
B. Establishing Lesson 1. The lesson will begin by briefly introducing Sir Isaac Newton
Purpose 2. The lesson will then proceed with defining Newton’s first law of
motion which is the law of inertia.
3. The teacher will explain the first part of Newton’s law of motion (An
object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced

4. The learners will share their thoughts on the relationship between an
object’s mass and its inertia.
5. The teacher will proceed in explaining the second part of Newton’s
law of motion (An object in motion continues to move with the same
velocity unless acted on by an unbalanced force.)
C. Developing and The learners will answer the following questions:
Deepening 1. What is inertia?
Understanding 2. Can you give an example of inertia from your daily life?
3. How does the mass of an object affect its inertia?
4. How does understanding inertia help in vehicle safety design?
D. Making The learners will reflect with the help of the following questions:
Generalizations 1. How did the activity a while ago help you understand the concept
better.
2. How can a better understanding of inertia help you in managing your
study habits or time management?
IV. Evaluating Learning,
Formative Assessment
and Teacher’s
Reflection
A. Evaluating Learning The learners will have a short quiz regarding the topic discussed.
B. Learner’s Reflection Guide Questions:
on the Topic 1. Which part of the topic you find:
a. easy to understand?
b. difficult to understand?
