Introduction
Polymers for Coated

Fabrics
PVC – Poly Vinyl Chloride

PVC Attributes

PVC-coated fabrics are among the most versatile options available today. They
possess superior mechanical characteristics like elasticity, three-dimensional
stability, and impact resistance. They are also durable and can perform in many
conditions without deteriorating for a long time.

Moreover, PVC fabrics can also be designed so they are resistant to both flames and
many common chemicals, including oil-based products. The material can also be
produced to resists most kinds of microbial growth and can be easily molded in the
required shapes.

PVC Applications

Single Ply Roofing

Industrial containers, geomembranes, and construction applications for

waterproofing

Personal protective suits

Healthcare fabrics

Various marine safety equipment

Inflatable structures

Military Tents, Shelters and covers

EIA – Ethylene Interpolymer Alloy

EIA/KEE Attributes
EIA’s most defining trait is its increased flexibility, durability, and chemical
resistance. Generally, outdoor applications deal with a common issue of plasticizer
migration after chemical or UV exposure. EIA prevents that and allows the material
to continue working in such conditions.

EIA by improving the fusion and flow characteristics of comparatively rigid PVC
material. This results in a wider processing window and increases the material’s
versatility. EIA also comes with superior impact-resisting characteristics and has
increased temperature resistance due to its foam cell structure.

EIA/KEE Applications
Berm Liners

Potable water storage

Wastewater containment

Hydrocarbon and chemical containment

Geomembranes – Primary and secondary containment

TPU – Thermoplastic Polyurethane

Attributes

Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) is well-known for its high elasticity and

resistance to hydrocarbons and other chemical compounds. TPU coated textiles are
generally divided into two types, polyester and polyether.

Both types have many similarities and differences. For instance, both polyester and
polyether TPU come with high resistance to abrasions and temperature change.
However, polyether doesn’t get brittle in cold temperatures and is a better choice
than polyesters in sub-zero temperatures.

Similarly, polyether comes with high hydrolytic stability and energy rebound
properties, making it impact-resistant and suitable for humid conditions.
Polyesters, on the other hand, offer better energy absorption and chemical
resistance. These qualities make them suitable for flexible storage tanks and water
or chemical containment and vibration dampening applications.

Applications

Water and chemical containment

Drop drums, pillow tanks, etc

Spill containment applications

Chemical suits and other garment applications

Oil seals, flexible ducting, pipe plugs, etc

TPO – Thermoplastic Polyolefin

Attributes

PP offers superior flexibility and material properties that make it resistant to

punctures, tears, abrasions, and other similar damages. After some processing, the
material can also offer chemical and UV resistance, making it suitable for a variety
of different applications.

Another distinguishing feature of PP is its ability to be prepared in controlled

conditions. The material allows welding ahead of time to get better bonding
characteristics and reduced CQA expenses. PP is only hot air weldable and is
available in various colors.

Applications

Frac Pad Liners

Floating Covers

Reservoir liners

Tank liners

Geomembranes

Graywater, and other solid/hazardous waste processing

Mining heap ponds

5 Additives For
Performance Enhancement

1. Plasticizers: Additives that enhance the flexibility or rigidity of the polymer.

2. Biocides: For many applications, especially water storage, resistance to
microbial growth is extremely important. Biocides and fungicides improve a
polymer’s capability to resist such growth.
3. Colorants: Colorfastness is a material’s resistance to color fading and
withering with time. Many additives can enhance the color fastness property of
the polymer.
4. UV Additives: For outdoor applications, UV radiation from the sun is a huge
threat. Additives that enhance a material’s resistance to such radiations can
improve durability and make the material suitable for a variety of applications.
5. Flame retardants: Flame retardants are commonly used in polymers
formulations to stop the spread of fire. Many different types of chemistries can
be used to enhance flame resistance. Halogenated and non halogenated
additives can be used to enhance flammability properties. Reducing the ability
of a fire to spread fast is an integral part of designs in many construction
applications. The demand for more and more flame retardant materials is only
increasing.
