Fee Status Assessment and Paying your Fees

Your acceptance of this offer confirms your agreement to pay the tuition fees at the rate stated on this offer letter.
If your status has not been determined you must complete and return a fee assessment questionnaire with
supporting documentation so that we may fully assess your tuition fee status. Your tuition fee status is set for the
duration of your programme of study. If you disagree with the fee assessment you may request for the decision to
be re-assessed by contacting Admissions at [email protected] within 10 working days of receiving the
outcome.

If following the outcome of any re-assessment you wish to submit an appeal please see the Fee Assessments
Policy for further information:
http://www.bbk.ac.uk/registry/policies/documents/fee-assessment-policy.pdf
Before your programme starts you will be invited to complete the online enrolment process, as part of the

sponsorship, credit card, BACS transfer or with direct debit instalment plans. Please note that you will not receive
any invitation to enrol if your tuition fee status has not been determined.

Fees are charged annually and students may expect tuition fees to increase annually in line with inflation. The

http://www.bbk.ac.uk/registry/policies/documents/fees-policy.pdf

available in University of London Intercollegiate Halls of residence and priority for these is given to new
international students. Options for part-time students are generally limited to the private rented sector, flat share

Programme Details
The key details of your programme are outlined on the course prospectus page on the Birkbeck website:
http://www.bbk.ac.uk/study/.
Additional information can found in the programme specification available here:
http://www.bbk.ac.uk/registry/for-staff/quality/programme-specifications/2018-19.
Please note that in some exceptional situations it may be necessary to cancel programmes or modules. When
this occurs you will be contacted at the earliest opportunity with this information. Where there is a substantial
change you will be given the option to cancel your application to the programme with no financial penalty.

Criminal convictions
Disclosing a criminal conviction is not a requirement of an application to study at the University and applicants
will only ever be assessed on their academic suitability.
The exception to this are students who require a visa to study in the UK who are required to disclose this
information as part of the visa application process, or courses which involve working directly with children
or vulnerable adults where a criminal record check is required.
You are required to inform the College if you are currently on probationary license, or subject to any of the
following sections 35; 36; 37; 38; 37/41; 47 or 48 of the Mental Health Act, or on a Court Order for any other
treatment. Please email [email protected]

The College will use this information to assess how the College can manage any perceived risk. Where possible
the University will undertake to make reasonable adjustments and will suggest alternative programmes of study
where available if an applicant’s licence conditions make their first choice of course impractical. In exceptional
cases, the College reserves the right not to admit a student convicted of a serious criminal offence between offer
of admission and enrolment.

Though your conviction should not prevent you from studying on your desired course (our policy is to assess
your application on academic merit alone), it is important that applicants with criminal convictions are aware of
possible issues with gaining employment in their desired field after graduation depending on the nature of the
offence. Information on what offences may prevent a graduate from working in a particular role can be obtained
from the relevant regulatory body (eg the Solicitors Regulation Authority if you wish to practice as a solicitor or
the Health Professionals’ Council for work in health care). Examples of areas of employment in which a criminal
conviction may affect job opportunities after graduation include education, healthcare and finance. However,
there are many different roles within these sectors and where a previous conviction may have an impact on your
ability to work in one role, it may not have any impact on another within the same sector. If you have concerns
that your future careers plans may be affected by previous convictions, then please email
[email protected] for further advice.
