Store materials inside under cover and keep them dry and protected against damage from
weather, direct sunlight, surface contamination, corrosion, construction traffic and other
causes. Neatly stack gypsum boards flat to prevent sagging or damage to the edges.
Stacks of boards should be covered with tarpaulin which permits air to circulate.

Individual boards should be handled and stacked carefully to prevent damage to edges,
ends and surfaces. Do not lift boards by short edges.

Do not bend or otherwise damage metal corner beads and trim.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

Furnish concrete inserts, anchors and other devices indicated, to other trades for installation
well in advance of time needed for coordination with other construction.

3.2 STEEL STUD PARTITIONS

3.2.1 Install steel studs in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s printed instructions unless
otherwise noted.
3.2.2 Where metal studs extend to underside of structure above, provide two (2) top runners
nestled together to provide minimum 9.5 mm clearance between top of studs and channel
runners, to avoid transmission of structural loads to studs.
3.2.3 Align and secure channel runners at floor and at underside of structure or suspended
ceiling above, set plumb and true to line vertically and horizontally, according to partition
layout indicated on Drawings. Secure in place with suitable fasteners located 50 mm from
each end and spaced at 600 mm o.c., or suspended ceilings with toggle bolts or molly bolts
spaced 400 mm o.c.
3.2.4 Position and secure steel studs vertically into runner channels at 400 mm on center and not
more than 50 mm from abutting walls, openings and each side of corners.
3.2.5 Supply accessories required to complete the installation including, extensions, reinforcing
channels and anchors.
3.2.6 Provide double studs at each side of openings and at corners. Reinforce at 600 mm o.c.
centers with 600 mm long horizontal reinforcing channels.
3.2.7 Install continuous double studs, on both sides of all door frames extending from floor to
ceiling runner.
3.2.8 Build door frames into stud framing, using anchors furnished with frames. Set true and
plumb and leave ready for hanging of doors and glazing. Join double studs with flat metal
straps at 600 mm o.c.
3.2.9 At all locations where wall-mounted fitment occur, set double 38 mm steel channels joined
with flat metal straps between studs at proper hight for securing of units.
3.2.10 Caulk the perimeter junction of partitions on both sides to walls, floor and underside of
suspended ceilings, structure over and at hollow metal door and screen frames with
acoustical sealant.

Wire tie furring members to main runners of other structural supports.

3.2.2 Installation Tolerances: Install steel framing components furring member so that fastening
surface and the grid suspension members are level. Do not vary more than 3 mm
measured both lengthwise and transversely between parallel members.

3.3 APPLICATION

3.3.1 Apply boards with screws spaced at 300 mm o.c. at mid panel and at edges, staggered, no
closer than 9.5 mm from edges and ends driven slightly below the surface leaving a shallow
dimple.
3.3.2 Cut all openings with saw leaving square edges.
3.3.3 Loosely butt all joints to be taped and reinforced with fiber mesh reinforcement.
3.3.4 Stagger all end joints and the joints between panels to achieve a maximum of bridging and a
minimum of continued joints. Stagger joints on opposite sides of partitions.
3.3.5 Install boards over insulated walls where shown on Drawings, attached to metal furring or
“T” studs

3.5 FINISHING

3.5.1 Apply joint treatment at board joints (both directions), penetrations, fastener heads, surface
defects and elsewhere as required to prepare work for decoration.

3.5.2 Prefill open joints, rounded or bevelled edges and damaged areas, if any, using setting-type
joint compound.

3.5.3 Apply joint tape at joints between boards.

3.5.4 Finish interior board by applying the following joint compounds in 3 coats (not including
prefill of openings in base), and sand between coats and after last coat:

Embedding and First Coat: Setting-type joint compound

Fill (Second) Coat: Setting-type joint compound
Finish (Third) Coat: Ready-mix drying-type all-purpose or topping compound

3.5.5 Prepare and apply primer to panels, apply primer only to surfaces are clean, dry and
smooth.

3.5.6 Painting after finish coat has dried is specified in Division-9, Section 09 90 00 "Painting".

3.6 PROTECTION
