Global Warming

When it comes to humans, the biggest problem currently facing

humanity is GLOBAL WARMING!
Since the Earth’s formation, the Earth had different periods time of
where it had different climates ranging from very cold ones (Earth was
an ice ball) and relatively warm ones. This is normal, but what we are
facing now is far from normal.
Forest fires, melting of polar regions, animal
extinction and extreme weather events are disasters which
have increased significantly in the past years. The reason behind this
increase is mostly due to Global Warming.

What is Global Warming?

Global warming is a threatening disaster which is threatening to
completely demolish humanity! Global warming is the increase in
the planet's overall average temperature. In recent years the
planet’s average temperature has significantly increased at an
alarming rate and currently the average temperature is alarmingly
scary.
This increased temperature leads to many disasters and can cause
extinction to many animals and even HUMANS if it doesn’t stop.

What Causes Global Warming?

Global warming’s main cause is something called the Greenhouse
Effect. Basically, the greenhouse effect is when the greenhouse
gases: Carbon dioxide (CO₂), Methane (CH ), Nitrous oxide(N O) and
4 2

water vapor (H₂O) and a few more increase in Earth’s atmosphere.

This is because when the sun radiates heat to Earth it enters the
atmosphere but then these gases trap heat inside the Earth’s
atmosphere and the heat doesn’t go out. This makes the Earth’s
temperature increase and this increase in temperature is called
GLOBAL WARMING!
Greenhouse effect is called by this name because the same idea
happens in a greenhouse but on a much smaller scale. In
greenhouses Carbon dioxide is released into the house which makes
the temperature warmer. This is done because plants need carbon
dioxide to make Photosynthesis - a process which is done by a plant
in order to release energy for the plant; it also releases oxygen.
Human activities since the Industrial revolution have increased Carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere by over 30% and methane levels by over
150%. These carbon dioxide emissions are causing about three
quarters of Global warming. This increase in carbon dioxide emissions
is due to the combustion (burning) of fossil fuels. When humans
extract these fossil fuels and burn it, carbon dioxide is released back
into the air.

What are the Effects of Global

Warming?
Global warming has many disastrous effects which can even lead to
human extinction. As Earth’s climate increases, ice at the poles will
start to melt. If climate change continues the same way, it is expected
that ice at the two poles will completely melt.

 Extreme Weather conditions

When ice at the polar regions melt, the extra water which was
held by the glaciers causes sea levels to rise and also causes
water to spill out of the oceans flooding coastal regions. This
causes floods, hurricanes,tsunamis and typhoons.
 More Forest Fires
The increased temperature can also lead to extreme forest fires.
This is because when temperature increases, there is a higher
probability that trees can catch on fire.
 Habitat Destruction
These extreme weather conditions can lead to the destruction of
many habitats. This destruction leads to the extinction or
decrease in number of organisms as they will not find a place to
live in.

 Disruption of food webs

This destruction of habitats can lead to disruption of food webs
as some organisms will decrease in number which will make its
predator also decrease in number, but its prey will increase as it
will have less predators wanting to eat it. This problem will create
a big crisis.

 Famine
This crisis in food webs will cause a famine (extreme scarcity of
food) This is because many animals will not enough food to eat
as its prey has most likely decreased.

 Animal Extinction
Famines cause animal extinction as in famines animals do not
find enough food to eat; therefore, starvation will occur.

How to stop Global Warming?

As previously stated, and showed, global warming is a big crisis which
has many disasters and problems, so how can we STOP it?
In order to stop global warming, the burning of fossil fuels must be
decreased and that is not easy! To stop the use of fossil fuels,
humanity must come together in order to start the use of renewable
energy instead of non-renewable energy. Energy sources like the
sun and wind (solar and wind energy) are way better for the
environment as they don’t release greenhouse gases like carbon
dioxide into the atmosphere.
Using renewable energy has a problem, though; it is very expensive
and countries with its economy solely consisting of selling non-
renewable energy sources will definitely not agree on using renewable
energy as like this their economy would collapse.

In conclusion, Global Warming is an alarming condition that is

threatening our survival (all animals and humans) on our planet Earth.
People must join together in one hand to STOP this calamity. It has
been caused by our increased activities which release Carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere and we should also manage to stop it.
