Q31. Read the following excerpt carefully and answer the questions that follow .
“ Evidence of an invasion"
Dead man lane is a narrow alley, varying from 3 to 6 feet in width......At the point where the late turn westward,
part of a skull and the bones of the thorax and upper arm of an adult were discovered, all in a very friable
condition, at a depth of 4 ft 2 in. The body lay on its back diagonally across the lane. Fifteen inches to the west

When the king devanampiya Piyadassi had been ruling for eight years, the (country of the) Kalinga’s (present

deplorable by Devanampiya that, while one is conquering and unconquered (country) slaughter, death and
deportation of people( take place) there.

How could man and woman acquire wealth?
For men, the Manu smriti declares, there are seven means of acquiring wealth inheritance, finding purchase,
conquest, investment ,work and acceptance of gifts from good people.
For women there are six means of acquiring wealth what was given in front of the fire (marriage) or the bridal
procession or as a token of affection and what she got from her brother, mother or father. She could also
acquire wealth through any subsequent gift and whatever her 'affectionate' husband might give her.
