For fleet and line haul businesses, Caterpillar offers two, million-mile engines the C13 and the C15 both with ACERT Technology. For fleets, owner operators, heavy vocational users and other applications requiring outstanding performance, the C15 is the fuel-efficient and low-maintenance-cost answer. The C15 with ACERT Technology includes a single-piece steel, low-friction piston, a new 4-bolt connecting rod and a high-efficiency water pump. Continuing its legacy of success, the Cat C15 is the industrys proven high-horsepower leader.

The C13 replaces the very popular Cat C-12 and will continue to be the weight-to-horsepower and fuelefficiency leader in its class. As with the C15, the C13 will be introduced with a higher compression ratio and a higher cylinder pre s s u re for improved performance and fuel economy. A larger sump oil pan has been i n t roduced to decrease oil change frequency. With the changes to the cylinder head and the increased sump capacity, this engine now has the same durability as the C15, making it a true million-mile engine.

ACERT Technology starts with a very efficient combustion process augmented by cool, clean air. The exhaust energy is then recovered in the turbomachinery. This robust air system improves fuel consumption and lowers in-cylinder combustion temperatures, which reduces emissions. What isnt cleaned up during that process flows out the exhaust system, where the tailored aftertreatment changes the particulate matter into carbon dioxide and water, all resulting in an efficient combustion with low emissions and very good fuel economy. Air System Cat engines with ACERT Technology utilize an advanced air system that is able to control the air volume required at various loads and speeds to achieve complete combustion and excellent fuel economy. The air system automatically adjusts to the requirements on the engine. The C13 and C15 utilize series turbocharging to provide more air flow and higher boost levels. ADEM Electronics The ECM, used in both the C13 and C15, is based on the award-winning ADEM design used in Cat onhighway engines for years. Specifically engineered to give trouble-free operation in the harshest operating conditions, as well as provide quicker and easier diagnostic capability. Fully integrated into the engine and vehicle system to provide fuel and air control for optimized fuel economy. Provides a full range of programmable operation parameters for fuel savings, engine-monitoring protection, theft deterrent, idle and cold-start control, and numerous PTO operations. The aftert reatment consists of a substrate material c o re that provides the foundation for the wash coat or catalyst a substance that is used to speed up a chemical reaction. Hydrocarbons in the exhaust are passed through the catalyst and are chemically oxidized or converted to carbon dioxide or water. This emissions reduction system is incorporated into a muffler system that is designed to each truck manufacturers requirements. The engine and aftertreatment solutions are integrated into the chassis. The projected life of the aftertreatment is as long as the engine itself. The system requires virtually no service and no cleaning.
