PANGUNGUNA

Self-initiative
connotes sariling
pagkukusa or sariling
pagpapasimuno.

It is the ability to take the

lead, the capacity to
begin the first step, or the
power to blaze the trail.

It refers to ones own

ability and power o begin,
to break the ground, to
start the ball, to lay the
first stone, and to make
the first step or first move
in every undertaking.

It is one thing to be
industrious, persevering
and hardworking, but it is
quite a different thing to
be
initiatory
and
enterprising,
nay,
forward-looking.

Daig ng maagap ang

masipag.
(The foresighted will outwit
the industrious.)

Humukay ka ng balon
bago ka mauhaw.
(Dig up a well before you
become thirsty.)

ng gabay kung kailan

papalubog na ang
bangka.
(Dont install the float at
the time that the boat is
sinking.)

Ang hipong tulog,

natatangay ng agos.
(A sleeping shrimp is
carried away by the
current.)

Wala nang silbi ang

damo kung patay na ang
kabayo.
(The grass is useless, once
the horse is dead.)

Ang kaunting sira kung

di mo lagyan ng tagpi,
pagkakaraan ng
malaking gisi.
(A small tear that is not
patched up immediately
will become big.)

Ang kahoy na likot

baluktot, hutukin mo
hanggang malambot; kung
malaki nat tumayog,
mahirap na ang paghutok.
(A bend and crooked tree
should be straightened while
soft; once it is high and big,
you cannot stretch it
anymore.)

Ilocanos Value of
Self-initiative

Ti matmaturog
makamukat; ti
nasalibukag agbig.
(He who sleeps develops
gummy eye secretions; he
who is alert survives)

Samantalahan mu ing
panaun anggang oras, e
na magbalic ng panaun
malibas.
(Take advantage of he
opportunity while theres
still time; past time will
never come back.)

mibunton cang are,

canita potang muran
eca mabande.
(Save while the sun still
shines, so that you have
something during rainy
season.)

Procrastination is the
worst enemy of selfinitiative

It is commonly known as
the manana habit or
mamaya na mentality.

Ivatans Value of SelfInitiative

Nu tokon am
rumanonava dimo ta
imo u mangay du tokon.
(The mountain will not
come near you, you have
to approach it yourself.)

takey mo ano tayoca,

nacavalac a vinayu
moha moha.
(Dont fence the field after
the wild animals have
already destroyed the
plants.)

Isan an ubay co hari

elegan, hari no ma oma.
(A place may be near, but
unless you approach it, you
cannot reach it.)

Adem am-mo na cayat

mo ay aramidem no di
adi ca padasen.
(You can never know your
capability until you try it
yourself.)

Self-initiative comes from

within, not from without;
hence, the decision to
undertake anything else
begins with the individual
himself.

Success
must
be
won
through ones unstinting
struggle and efforts. And
no matter how near it is or
how easy to get it, success
remains elusive to anyone
who lacks initiative.

The only way to attain

success is to go after it;
and to go after it, one
should make the first move
now.

Act now before it is too

late.
