AND PRACTICES HELD BY GROUP OF PEOPLE OFTEN CODIFIED AS PRAYER ,RITUAL AND RELIGIOUS LAW RELIGION • SHINTO is the indegenous faith of Japanese people and as old as japanese itself • Japan’s major religion besides BUDDHISM SHINTO • SHINTO Gods are called KAMI • SUN Goddess AMATERASU considered as shinto most important KAMI • The priests are called MIKO • The place where GOD is worshipped is know as SHRINES FORMS OF SHINTO
Following are the four forms of Shinto
• KOSHITSU SHINTO- symbol of state of unity and people.NINAMESAI is the first festival of KOSHITSU SHINTO’S offering first fruits of grain harvest to dieties. • JINJA SHINTO- It is the largest group among SHINTO’S also known as SHRINES. FORMS OF SHINTO’S • KHOYA- It consists of 13 sec also known as SHUHA • MINZOKU- It’s the smallest group consisting only 7% of all SHINTO’S also known as FOLK SHINTOIST BELIEFS • Human became KAMI after death and are revered by families as ancestral KAMI. • SHINTOIST’S are optimistic and believe that all human are good. • Death considers as source of impurity and left to BUDDHISM to deal with. Upper house of councilors - also known as SHANGI-IN Lower house of representatives - also known as SHUGI-IN POLITICAL SYSTEM House of representatives can be dissolved at any time by the prime minister(by-election is called)but house of councillors cannot be resolved. As created in 19th century parties are
changing constantly,undergoing splitting ,renaming and regrouping.The three major parties are • LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY- Only party from 1958 also known as JIMINTO • CLEAN GOVERNMENT PARTY- Currently 3rd major party having 5-10% seats in DIET also known as KOMEITU POLITICAL PARTIES • DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF JAPAN- Defeated LDP by1 seat at upper election house on 11 july 2004 also known as MINSHUTO other parties include only 3-5%seats and impart small role in administration ELECTION SYSTEM • Legal age for voting is 20 yrs . • Minimum age to stand for lower house is 25 yrs and for upper house is 30 yrs. • 250 councilors elected for 6yrs and 480 representatives for 4yrs. JAPAN IN HDI HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX measures life expectancy ,literacy,education and standard of living worldwide. HDI is used to determine whether country is a developed developing or under developed country. JAPAN IN HDI • JAPAN holds 7th position in human development index • Japan(0.949) follow CANADA(0.950) and followed by U.S.A(0.948) • Above (0.8) suggests better life standerd so as in case of japan JAPAN IN HDI • RANKING-7 • HPI-11.7 This suggests that japan holds a very good position in HDI as ahead of U.S.A CONTRIBUTION OF JAPAN IN G8 • Fostering people centered policy framework • Providing financial funds and resources • Promoting TICAD process to draw the worlds attentioned to challenge in Africa,where 34 LDC’s out of 49 in the world are concentrated. CONTRIBUTION OF JAPAN IN G8 On the occasion of G8 KANANASKIS summit in 2002 Japan accounted following measures • To provide ODA • To launch the basic education for growth initiative. • On the occasion of G8 KYUSHU-OKINAWA summit 2000 Japan announced OKINAWA disease initiative for enhancing its assistants to measure against infectious and parasite. CONTRIBUTION OF JAPAN IN G8 • Japan announced the environmental conservation initiative for sustainable development in 2002. • Providing financial support to UNCTAD project on human resource capacity building in developing countries in 2002.
