Conventional Operation

Fillup Tool Operation

Explaination of the functions:

1- Run

Lowers the pipe into the box.

Holds the weight of the pipe off of the
threads.
Allows only 50 lbs. on the threads.

2- Pull
Lifts the weight of the pipe off of the threads.
Prevents galling by allowing only 50 lbs.
Prevents pulling stabbing threads.
( Talk to the stabbercommunication is very important.
He will need to flag the driller to keep you informed
of rod positions.)

US = lbs
UK =
Kilogram (kilo)

2.2 lbs. = 1 kilo

Casing = Range 3 ( 35 > 42 ft. )
Tubing = Range 2 ( 25 > 35 ft. )
Example: 13 3/8 72# - N-80 Butt
72
_______

2.2 ) 3024.0

72 lb/ft = 32.7 k/p (kips)

Why do we need to know this before we pull or run
pipe?

Draw and Explain Cylinder

2 rods but not double
acting!!

Compensator Tool
Operations

Panel

Air supply = 100psi

Air Regulators (2)

Oil Lubricators (Mobil: Almo525 Air Tool Oil)

(Marvel Mystery Oil will eat up the seals)

Note: Air on the Rig is moist so you must run oil in the
regulators. Once you start putting oil you must
continue.

Load Gauge

Talk again about conversion

Test: How many kilo 5 (324.55 @ 42 )
Note: A Secondary Intensifier was put in to allow
running extra joints.

Job Valve

Balance Valve

Block = No communications
Run = both cylinders talk about load ( 50 lbs differential
built in )

Pulling Valve

Simply type of work to be done.. PullRun

Never use while running pipe

When pulling pipe *RESET allows you to go from 2 or
so, below collar load gauge with pipe weight by manual
UP button *GO allows compensator to learn weight
Note: When you throw BALANCE VALVE to RUN Notice
it adds 50 lbs.)
Tip: Put Rod Down and come up a bit for fluid buffer.

System Bleed (Must pull then rotate to operate)

Allows all pressure in hoses to go back to tank

What happens if you open bleed valve with load on the
cylinder?? Both rods will fully extend

System Purging the Hydraulic

To Purge the weighing circuit of the

Backpacker system, a jumper hose and a bleed
off hose are required.

1- Air filter / Regulator ( 100 psi )

Muffler
2- Control Regulator ( 50 psi )
3- Drive Regulator ( 75 psi )
Sequence Valve
4- Amplifier Sequence Valve
Valve

5- Balance
6- Job Muffler
7- Memory
8- Air Control

Run Procedure
1- Unpack all gear and set on rig floor (Never lay Panel Down)
2- Replace Hydraulic Tank Cap with breather cap
Check Hydraulic fluid level (sight tube)
Requires 10 wt Mineral Oil
ISO 32 (SAE 10)
3- Install remote air drying system in vertical position
4- Blow out air lines (before installing to control panel)
5- Install air hoses and hydraulic hose to control panel
Open air valve and set pressure to 100 psi on air gauge
6- Set levers to RUNRESETBLOCK (Neutral Position)
(Before connecting or disconnecting lines)
7- Disconnect hydraulic lines and replace with black purge
line
8- Push manual UP button until top cylinder is fully retracted.
9- OPEN system bleed valve and manually extend top cylinder
rod approximately 2. Then CLOSE system bleed valve.
10-Disconnect black purge hose and replace with hydraulic
lines from compensator

11- Fully retract rod of bottom cylinder by pushing the UP

button.
12- Install compensator to block and rig up cables, spreader
bars, swivel and single joint elevator.

Draw rig up
Top spreader bar 3 above elevator
Rig up lower spreader bar if cables rub elevator

13- Run pipe (How panel is set up?)

14- Pick up pipe

Notice weight on gauge

Have driller position pin end just above stabbing guide or
coupling. (2)

15- Throw BALANCE valve to RUN position

IF small enough OD pipe, start by hand

Install power tong on piperotate without closing back-up
When tongs begin to sense torque, close and set back-up.

NOTE: When tong operator shifts to low gear, have driller

lower traveling block and throw JOB VALVE to PULL.
TIP: Listen to pumps for slight change in cadence for sign
that cylinder is fully retracted.
NOTE: Air lubricator requires Mobil Almo 525 Air Tool Oil

Hydraulic oil for tank on panel needs to be mineral oil 10 wt.

Pulling Procedure
1- Gather info on pipeAsk company rep wt and approximate
length. (AVG)
2- Follow steps 1 through 12 of running procedure
3- Overhead
Set JOB VALVE to PULL
Set BALANCE VALVE to BLOCK
Set PULLING to RESET
Make sure cylinder is fully extended (HOW??? Push down
button)
4- Have stabber flag driller to bring single joint elevator as close
as possible to collar.
5- Notice wt of hardware
A. Push up button to load wt of hardware and pipe
B. Throw RESET to GO. (learning wt)
C. Throw BLOCK to RUN.
Note: After Tong Operator has joint completely backed out, if joint
does not rise, have the stabber move to align.
Note: Once you see pin end above stabbing guide, or coupling, set
balance valve to BLOCK. At the same time, set PULLING
VALVE to RESET. Push DOWN button to fully extend the rod
on lower cylinder while crew is installing protector.

Completion of Job

Rig down hardware and cylinder on rig

floor
Fully retract cylinders
Open SYSTEM BLEED VALVE bleed

SYSTEM BLEED VALVE.
Close AIR VALVE and bleed air pressure by
opening valves on water traps.
Replace breather cap with hydraulic tank
cap.
Place all equipment in transport box
Keep panel upright at all times.
