Prints
(Lesson 1- 3rd Quarter)

Printmaking
is the
process of
transferring
an inked
image from
one surface
to another.

Like murals, printmaking

has always been popular
because its easy and fun
to make. Making prints
also uses inexpensive
materials.

With printmaking, you can make

copies of an image several times.
Each one is considered an original
print.

A print is
the image
the artist
makes
from the
printmakin
g process.

An edition is
a set of
identical
prints that
are
numbered
and signed.

After completing the

edition, the artist
destroys the printing
plate so that it can
no longer be used.

Observe lines, shapes,

texture, and contrast
Check out different items and
identify the straight lines from
the curved lines, the small
shapes from the big shapes,
and the smooth from the rough
texture. With these, you can
apply contrast in your prints.

Contrast is the design

principle in using opposites.
