ABSTRACT
This project proposes a dual mode inverter based hybrid converter that can
support grid tied mode operation to extract maximum power from the solar PV
source at all times.
The ability of the proposed converter to produce both DC and AC output allows
flexibility of operation in environments where the grid may not be available.
This type of home helps to reduce the power loss by avoiding unnecessary double
stages of power conversion and improves the harmonic profile by isolating DC type
loads to DC supply side and rest of AC side.
EXISTING SYSTEM
A limitation of the existing micro-inverter topologies is the need for a large energy buffering
elements.
Conventional grid connected inverter uses high DC link voltage which will be the peak
magnitude of the line-line grid voltage.
For this particular purpose two stage conversions are required to boost up the DC voltage
and to invert it. However, this will increase the cost, size and loss of the system.
Passive power decoupling either makes use of a bulky DC link capacitance or an LC resonant
filters at the junction of the PV panel to absorb the power pulsation.

TITLE A novel single-stage solar inverter using hybrid active filter with power

AUTHOR B. Mariappan, B. G. Fernandes, M. Ramamoorty
YEAR 2014
CONCEPT • One of the issues with grid feeding inverter is the requirement of high
dc-link voltage.
• So, single stage solar inverters using conventional inverters may not be
suitable.
• The inverter features a single power stage, with dc link voltage less than
the peak line-line voltage, which will reduce the power losses and
circuit complexity.

CONCEPT • In general, the single-phase single stage inverters are categorized into
four types of topologies: 1) H-Bridge, 2) buck-boost, 3) flyback type
chopper and 4) Z-Source inverter.

CONCEPT • The main concept of the new converter is to use a single-stage three-
phase grid-tie solar PV converter to perform dc/ac and dc/dc operations.
When grid-tied the energy buffering in the converter, to achieve power pulsation
at the output, is done using the decoupling capacitor and a switch.
A CUK converter has been utilized here so that it can support variable output
load with both positive polarity and negative polarity.
