MOTIVATION

Everyday before school my


mother used to give me 2
paisa and say ‘ Spend
one on your self and give
the other away’.
It was her way of
creating awareness in me
of the need for social
welfare

Edhi’s mother had a stroke when he was

Afterwards started clothes whole sale Business
in market of Karachi

Joined ‘Bnatva Memon Khidmat Committee’

Sooner left and started welfare on his own for all

He started with 5000 rupees in hand and an ambulance

He created a free dispensary


LIFE STYLE
Very simple living in a house
having two rooms at Edhi Centre.

Edhi was famous for having


only two pair of clothes
THREATS & FEARS

Every single step he took involved hardships and


sufferings.
Humanitarian had threats for his life from
politicians, when Edhi was forced to leave
country by his companions
Threats of abduction from Talibans
Jealousy of other welfare and religious organizations
Had to face abduction in his own centre
Refused to have security even when asked by
Government of Pakistan

ILLNESS

• On 5 th June, 2013, Edhi suffered from Kidney Failure


• He had to survive on Dialysis

• But he soon found a donor


DEATH
• Edhi left this world on 8 th July, 2016 due to
kidney failure

• He is laid to rest in Edhi Village, Karachi


BURIAL
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said "We have lost
a great servant of humanity. He was the real
manifestation of love for those who were socially
vulnerable, impoverished, helpless and poor.”
Prime Minister announced state funeral for Edhi

He became third Pakistani to have state funeral

State funeral has only been given to following


persons
• Quaid-e-Azam
• Gen. Zia-ul-Haq
• Abdus Sattar Edhi
LESSONS TO LEARN
• Least judgemental man
- Never judge anyone from his colour, cast, religion and creed

• Humanity above religion


- Once asked ‘Why must you pick up Christians and Hindus in your
ambulance?’ Edhi replied ‘Because the ambulance is more Muslim
than you
• Accolades don’t matter
-Misery, hardships, suffering and awards never matter

• Head down and focus on work


-Money, fame and popularity never matter

• Don’t wait for others to change the world


-Had Edhi not taken the plunge to start, we may not have Edhi
foundation
