Example:
Bank A is not as competitive as bank B in offering a variety of

services. Bank A needs automation to bring it to the same
level as bank B.
Felt Need
Example:
The executives of a sales-and-marketing firm believe that
their sales representatives need training in interpersonal
relations because they don’t share valuable information that
can help others increase their sales. They feel a need for
this training to solve their problem.
Expressed or Demanded Need
Example:
Insurance company Y is looking for ways to improve the
speed of processing claims because a private consulting
company delivered the results of a survey it conducted,
showing that motorists use this as the number-one criterion
in selecting an insurance company.
Comparative Need
Example:
Retailer A finds that its customer service representatives
resolve customer inquiries at an average of ten resolutions
per measurement unit. The range among representatives,
however, is from five to fifteen resolutions. The retailer
needs to bring all customer service representatives to a
maximum level of efficient processing while maintaining
customer satisfaction.
