RATIONALE
The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is
DepEd’s flagship program to provide a viable
mechanism to reach Filipino youth who are
unable to access or who have dropped out
from formal school, as well as adults who failed
to complete basic education. ALS offers non-
formal education comprising the Basic Literacy
Program (BLP) and the Accreditation and
Equivalency Program (A and E). BLP aims to
develop the basic literacy skills of reading,
writing and numeracy, while A and E provides
non-formal instruction across learning
competencies that constitute a pathway
towards completing basic education

ALS-EST: The Silliman University Way

Curriculum Map
Senior High School Equivalency
(Information and Communication Technology and Entrepreneurship)

The Alternative Learning System of Silliman University for Senior High School is
intended for out-of-school youth and adults who do not have access to formal
education. The course design integrates SU-ALS para-teaching competencies
with Senior High School Core (SHS) competencies. Generally, the program is
designed to prepare the students to become para-teachers or teaching
assistants who are equipped with fundamental knowledge and skills in teaching
and para-teaching. The course also promotes, among the students, a positive
attitude towards the practice of teaching and develops their understanding of
the varying levels and needs of learners.

 One ALS teachers per
one school per
barangay
 Reiterate literacy
 Change the “mark” of
being an ALS learner
 Encourage more
