Ledivina Cariño • She oversaw the earliest moves to revise the UP


Charter. Cariño was the chairperson of the
Technical Panel for Public Administration of the
Philippine Commission on Higher Education
(CHED) from 2005 to 2009.
• Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Journal of Public
Administration (PJPA). She also served in the
Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS)
board of trustees.

Karina Constantino David • She was the executive director of Harnessing Self-
Reliant Initiatives and Knowledge (HASIK) which is
a non-government organization involved in urban
poor empowerment, gender development,
protection of children and adolescents, and housing
and livelihood projects.
• David chaired the Housing and Urban
Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) from
1998 to 1999.
Nicole Curato • Best known for her academic work on deliberative
democracy. Her work has been published in
academic journals including Qualitative Inquiry,
Policy Sciences, Current Sociology, European
Political Science Review, and Acta Politica, among
others. Her recent work has examined the character
of Rodrigo Duterte's populism.
• She also served as editor for several Special
Issues of the Philippine Sociological Review.

Randy David • Filipino journalist, He is a professor emeritus of


sociology at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
He currently pens a weekly newspaper column for
the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
• He has authored several books including
“Reflections on Sociology and Philippine Society” in
2001, “ Nation, Self, and Citizenship: An invitation to
Philippine Sociology” in 2002
• He won the National Book Award in 2002 and 2003.
Czarina Saloma • Sociologist and Outstanding Young Scientist by the
National Academy of Science and Technology.
• She is internationally known through her
publications about Bohol heritage sites and
Information Technology of the Philippines.

Felipe Landa Jocano • Was a Filipino anthropologist, educator, and author

•His eminence within the field of Philippine
anthropology was widely recognized during his

Henry Otley Beyer (July • Was an American anthropologist, who spent most

Zeus Atayza Salazar • Is a Filipino historian, anthropologist, and

broad academic interests is reflected in the wide
range of topics of his publications which includes
anthropology (Anthropology: Range and
Relevance), historical linguistics (Pilipinong
Banua/Banwa sa Mundong Melano-Polinesyano),

Robert Bradford Fox (1918- • Was an anthropologist and leading historian on


1985) pre-Hispanic Philippines.In 1958, Fox led a
National Museum team in conducting extensive
excavations on two sites at Calatagan, Batangas,
in what may be considered the first systematic
excavation involving the National Museum in the
country.
• He led a six-year archaeological research project
in Palawan, focusing mainly on the caves and
rockshelters of Lipuun Point in the southern part of
the island (Fox 1970).
• Its most outstanding site is the Tabon Cave
complex, the large main cave delivered the only
Pleistocene human fossils found in the Philippines
to date.

E. Arsenio Manuel (1909 - • Was a Philippine academic, historian, and


2003) anthropologist best known for his contributions to
Philippine anthropology, history, literature, and
linguistics.
•During a three-decade academic career at the
University of the Philippines, he wrote a seminal
survey of Philippine folk epics, and was responsible
for discovering and publishing folk epics from the
Manuvu, Matigsalug, and Ilianon peoples

Melba Padilla Maggay • Is a Filipina writer, social anthropologist, and social


activist best known for her academic work and
popular books on culture, social change and
development issues.
• The founder of the Institute for Studies in Asian
Church and Culture. Maggay, Melba Padilla (1999).
• Understanding Ambiguity in Filipino

Jesus Tamayo Peralta • Is a painter, photographer, graphic artist, poet,


anthropologist/archaeologist, essayist, and also
one of the prizewinning playwrights in the
Philippines.
• As an eminent anthropologist, Peralta has
published a number of essays and articles in such
journals like the "ASPAC Quarterly", "Pamana",
"Kultura, The Philippine Quarterly", "Archipelago",
"Archeology" (Archaeology Institute of America),
"Solidarity", and "National Museum Papers“
•His scientific books include "Pre-Spanish Manila:
A Reconstruction of the Prehistory of Manila"
(1974), "The Philippine Lithic Tradition, No. 8"
(1978)
