Definition of Syllabus
Syllabus is a document which says what will
(or at least what should) be learnt by the
students and (should) be taught by the
teacher. The syllabus often contains material,
learning objective, assessment, and etc.
Syllabus has several different types that can
be defined. They are:
a. The evaluation syllabus
Evaluation syllabus is kind of syllabus that
reflects of view of what language is and how it
can be broken down. This syllabus records the
basis on which success or failure of the learner
by the end of the course.
b. The organisational syllabus
The organisational syllabus is kind of syllabus
that contains the nature of language and of
learning. This syllabus states the order in which
it is to be learnt.
c. The material syllabus
The material syllabus is a kind of syllabus
which is decided by the teacher that the
material should be chosen by considering
the context of language, relative
weightings, integration of skills, and the
number and type of exercises, the degree
of recycling or revision.
d. The teacher syllabus
The teacher syllabus is a kind of syllabus that
contains the clarity, intensity, and frequency of
any item from the teacher. Thus, the students
learn language through the mediation of a
teacher.
e. The classroom syllabus
The classroom syllabus is kind of
syllabus containing planned lesson about
unexpected condition from both the
classroom environment and the student.
The classroom syllabus should be
dynamic, and interactive environment
because it can affect the nature of what
is taught and what is learnt.
f. The learner syllabus
