Abstract

 The research study was undertaken to understand the demand and number
of visitors to 5-star luxury hotels, their types and the factors affecting this
demand throughout a full year. As everyone is aware that the Hotel
industry is associated with elements like luxury, glamour & comfort, but
through this research we will learn that there is more to this industry than
just these. The research has been conducted in the top 20 luxury hotels in
& around Delhi/NCR & 75 respondents were questioned in all from these
hotels along with management staff of these hotels. The sampling
technique use was simple random sampling & it was based on primary
data collection. A lot of new trends & variations have been noticed in the
research & there were a few hiccups during the exercise but with the
expertise of a few people from the industry, I was able to cope up with
those issues, the following report is my interpretation of the research.
INTRODUCTION

 Five star hotels in Delhi, a brief overview: The booming

tourism industry of India, a top world tourist destination, has
also led to the growth of the Indian hospitality industry. The
huge number of tourists, both international and domestic, are
catered to and taken care of by the 5 star hotels in India, who
offer warmth, comfort and contemporary facilities to the
guests. The hotels in India maintain very high standards of
service quality and this is evident from the hospitality offered
by the 5 star hotels of the country. Accredited across the
world for their sophistication, style, grandeur and superior
services, the five star category hotels are the ideal place to
lodge for a truly rewarding vacation.

AREA OF STUDY ON WHAT BASIS THE
HOTELS DEMAND IS ANALYSED.
 Delhi is an ancient city with rich culture, architecture and
human diversity. Both Old and New Delhi exert a mesmeric
charm on visitors. Get captivated amidst the grandeur of the
Mughal past in the labyrinthine streets of Old Delhi before
emerging into the wide open spaces of regal New Delhi, with its
ordered governmental vistas and munificent leafy
avenues. Hotels in New Delhi are great place to stay and enjoy
your vacation. Five Star Hotels in New Delhi is a great place to
indulge in all luxuries of life. The hotels are equipped with
contemporary facilities to provide you the best comforts of
home.
RELEVANCE OF
RESEARCH/PROBLEM STUDIED
The capital city of New Delhi serves as the base for hordes of
travelers and tourists from all across the globe. The staggering
diversity of India can be best felt in this city. The city is the
commercial and cultural hub of the country. The architectural
legacy of the city pulls in a large number of scholars, writers
and researchers from all around. There are such famous
attractions as the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid, the Qutub Minar,
the Lotus Temple etc.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUES

SAMPLING METHOD
The techniques used in this project report are simple random sampling.

SAMPLE SIZE
In total, we have taken 20 Hotels & 75 respondents as sample size who would be
responding to the questions in the questionnaire.

SELECTION OF RESPONDENTS TO BE INCLUDED IN SAMPLE

We have taken the respondents who are 18-35 yrs of age for the survey. The respondents
include both male & female. Mainly the respondents are the visitors we could meet on
our visits to the hotels visited.

SAMPLE PROFILE:
CATEGORY: corporate, upper middle & higher class people who visit luxury hotels
frequently, a few students and the management staff.
AGE GROUP: above 18 years
SIMPLE RANDOM SAMPLING:

In a simple random sample ('SRS') of a given size, all

such subsets of the frame are given an equal probability.
Each element of the frame thus has an equal probability
of selection: the frame is not subdivided or partitioned.
Furthermore, any given pair of elements has the same
chance of selection as any other such pair (and similarly
for triples, and so on). This minimizes bias and
simplifies analysis of results. In particular, the variance
between individual results within the sample is a good
indicator of variance.
COLLECTION OF DATA

ISSUES & CONCERNS GENERATED BY THE INVESTIGATORS & RESPONDENTS IN

THE COLLECTION OF DATA
 There were a number of problems faced by both ends i.e.
 The Respondents
 The Investigators

PROBLEMS FACED BY

RESPONDENTS
 Some of the respondents did not take the exercise seriously
 Some of the respondents were in a rush hence they filled it half heartedly
 Some hotel management staff did not take the questions asked very seriously and did not give
good responses.

INVESTIGATORS
 Time constraints, had to balance research work with college hours & assignments
 Conveyance problems & problems during the commute from one hotel to another and then
waiting for the relevant person was taxing
 Some of the respondents took the exercise as a casual session
PROCESSING OF DATA
Based on the questionnaire administered, the following data
was accumulated i.e.
 29% of the respondents visit a 5 star hotel once a month &
40% visit occasionally.
 Maximum % of the respondents (53%) visits these hotels
on special occasions like marriages, anniversaries,
birthdays etc.
 75% of the respondents come to avail restaurant/bar/pub
facilities at these hotels.
 55% of the respondents do not avail the promotional
facilities offered by these hotels.
Conclusion

BASED ON THE RESPONSES RECEIVED

 The maximum number of people visit luxury hotels
during summer breaks for holiday, but the corporate
visit these hotels on regular basis for meeting,
conferences and other gatherings of similar nature.
 According to the survey, the demand does not vary
with factors like recession much as these do not
affect the upper middle and higher class as much.
Also, promotional offers do not attract the
customers too much.
