Chapter 1. What is IoT?

1. Internet and IoT

• The Internet was known as ARPANET in 1969.
• 99% physical devices wasn’t connect to internet.
• In 2020 the number of devices connected to internet about 50 billion.
Notions of IoT
•  As a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital
machines. All the devices have unique indentifier and abilitiy to
transmit data and no need for human intervention.
Smart home
• Connect to devices: light, fan, door curtain, air-condition, heater,
aquarium, … into IoT system.
• The script is set up available : hostess, sleep, go home…
• Control by voices.
2. Value IoT bring
• The Change in mindset of business, authorities
• “Smart” Cities
• LOT sensors to collect data
• Analyze collected data to better manage and serve people
Industrial IoT
• Manufacturing industry
• Energy industry
• Brick-and-mortar retail

The benefits that IoT brings to businesses
• Increase customs relationship
• Promote innovation

Sound Sensor
• Principles: Use a microphone and opamp to detect sound, when the
sound intensity exceeds a certain threshold (changed by a
potentiometer), the output will be pulled to a low level, at the same
time with an indicator LED.
Light Sensor
• 5mm optical resistors - light sensors used in light sensor circuits
that turn on automatically when it is dark.
• 5mm optical impedance is a resistance whose impedance
changes with the change of light shining on.
• The optical impedance decreases its impedance in the
presence of light and increases its impedance when the light is
poor or there is no light.
Ultrasonic sensors
• Ultrasonic sensor SR04 uses the principle of ultrasonic
reflection.
• The sensor includes 2 modules: 1 module to generate
ultrasonic waves and 1 module to receive reflected ultrasonic
waves.
• first ,The sensor will emit an ultrasonic wave with 40khz
frequency . If there are obstacles on the way, the ultrasonic
waves will bounce back and affect the receiving module. By
measuring the time from transmitting to receiving the wave one
will calculate the distance from the sensor to the obstacle.
• Distance = (time * velocity of sound (340 m / s) / 2
