Statement of the Problem

The main purpose or this study is to utilize the aloe vera

gel and calamansi extract as an antibacterial hand
sanitizer.

• Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions.

1. Does the calamansi pure extract and aloe vera gel

can make hands dry?
2. Does it have side effects?
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE (RRL)
The researchers are creating a more effective hand sanitizer
with ingredients that are usually found locally. Calamansi is
an example of this local ingredient that is needed for hand
sanitizing. Calamondin (Citrofortunella Microcarpa) is an
important Citrofortunella, meaning that the calamondin is
an intergenetic hybrid between a member of the genus
citrus (in this case probably the mandarin orange) and the
komquat belong to fortunella.

Calamondin is a shrub or small tree growing to 3-6 meter

(9.8-19.7ft). The plant is characterized by wing-libe
appendages on the leaf stalks and white or purplish white
flower. The fruit of the calamondin resembles a small, round
line. Usually 3-5-35mm in diameter but sometimes up to
45mm. The center pulp
and the juice is the orange color of a tangerine with Avery
thin orange pill when ripe . Each fruit contains 8 to 12 seeds
(portonia,2014).
Hand sanitizer have a form of alcohol, as an active
ingredient. It works as an antiseptic. Other ingredients may
include water, fragrance and glycerin. Alcohol-based hand
sanitizer are clearly a very useful and important method to
prevent most bacterial and viral infections, with rare
ceptions (Doheny,3013). A typical store-bought hand
sanitizer contains the active ingredients isopropanol or
ethanol, these are both forms of alcohol. These types of
alcohol have the ability to kill many germs on contract,
without damaging the skins tissue. Isopropanol and ethanol
kill germs by discovering their constituent proteins, causing
the germs to die.
MATERIALS:

1. 1/2 Cuf of aloe vera gel

2. 2 teaspoon of glycerin
3. 1 cup of ethyl alcohol
4. Zest of a one whole orange
5. 1/2 cup of calamansi extract
6. 5 drops of olive oil
PROCEDURE
The researchers did was, first, scrape the gel inside the
aloe vera leaves. After scraping the gel, the group put it a
plastic container and added 1 cup of ethyl alcohol and 2
teaspoon of glycerin. Next, grate the orange to get the
zest and it to the mixture, then, mix the1/2 cup of
calamansi extract, the calamansi was obtained from the
local market, the fruit were cleansed with distilled water,
then, mix it till blend. Lastly, the group recycled a small
bottle that was used as a container for the mixture.
PHASE 1
PREPARATION
Calamansi preparation
The calamansi were taken at the researchers house in
Purok-8 Poblacion, Montevista, Davao De Oro. Prepare a
calamansi, knife, empty bottle.

EXTRACT PREPARATION
The calamansi will be wash in a clean water. The
researchers prepare a knife and an empty bottle where
they can put the calamansi extract. The researchers must
wear a safety equipment like mask and a gloves for their
safety.
PHASE II
EXPERIMENTATION
The researchers should cut the half of the calamansi, then
squeeze the calamansi and put it in the empty bottle. The
researchers should add the olive oil, the aloe vera, the
glycerine, the zest of the orange, and the ethyl alcohol in
the calamansi and then mixed it until it blended.
