1 SPEAKER
• The speaker is simply the person who is delivering, or presenting, the
speech.
• The speaker is the main figure in communication. This person is fully
responsible for all communication.
• Speaker plays the most important role in communication and it is the only
one who holds the responsibility to influence his/her audience through
public speaking. It is the speaker’s role to deliver a speech to the audience.

2 SPEECH
• The speaker must be very careful about his selection of words and content in this

the target audience and situation (occasion).
• The content of the speech must be very impressive to influence the mass and the
speaker must design the message very carefully.
• The speech must be clear as well as the speaker must have very good non-verbal
communication with the audience like eye contact.

CRITICAL ELEMENTS OF A GOOD COMMUNICATOR

According to Aristotle

1 ETHOS 2 PATHOS 3 LOGOS

ELEMENT

Personal credibility is exhibited when facing a situation. The

ability to convince without deceiving them. The importance
of the speaker's credibility in words to persuade their listener.

ETHOS
ELEMENT

Originally a Greek word meaning “suffering” or “experience”. The concept

of pathos as a mode of persuasion originated with the Greek philosopher
Aristotle. Pathos is an appeal made to an audience’s emotions in order to
evoke feelings.

PATHOS
ELEMENT

• The audience will not only be influenced by the speech but also the
logic behind it.
• The speaker has to take the help of Logos in Aristotle’s
communication model and present statistics and facts so that the
audience can believe and ultimately relate with him.

LOGOS

EXAMPLE

For instance, a politician (speaker) gives a speech to get

votes from the citizens (audience) at the time of the
proclamation rally (occasion). The civilians only vote if
they are influenced by the things the politician says in his
speech so the content must be very impressive to
influence the mass and the speaker must design the
message very carefully.
