INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS MORPHOLOGY TYPES OF MORPHOLOGY OF

BUILDING

•Morphology in architecture is the study of the evolution The building morphology can be considered
of form within the built environment to be of different types including the following:

•The outer form depends on the internal functional • Single loaded corridor type building
arrangements of the building as well as on the site • Double loaded corridor type building
condition including the site configuration, topography, • Central space type building
access to the site, surrounding built form, vegetation and • Core type building
climate

•The pattern of circulation in a built form can determine

its morphology.
WHAT IS SINGLE LOADED CORRIDOR

A single loaded corridor runs along an external (or atrium) face

of the building. The associated dwellings are accessed off one
side only and may be on one or more levels if the corridor
access occurs on alternate levels.
CATEGORIES OF SINGLE LOADED CORRIDOR TYPE:

• A single loaded corridor can ensure solar CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

exposure and may provide good cross
ventilation, if properly designed.
• Construction system usually load bearing or
columns.
• Normally used in low rise buildings Rooms are

natural light and ventilation.
• The width of the corridor depends on the traffic
load and functions of the building.
• The staircase may be located at one or both end
• In a linear building the expansion joint should be at
or at the center of the building.
every 150’.
• The maximum distance from one staircase to
another should be within 100’.

FINDINGS
• A low rise buildings
• Building structure is supported by column
• Column grid is from its structural need
• Rooms are located at the one side of the corridor
to get natural light and ventilation
• Stair case is located at both end of the corridor
CONCLUSION

• Overall building depth is shallower than double loaded, which is better for
congested sites

• This corridor type allow ample natural light and ventilation into the common
areas of the building.

• Buildings with a staircase at the end or center, can enjoy full solar access and
cross ventilation

• the associated dwellings are accessed off one side only and may be on one or
more levels if the corridor access occurs on alternate levels.
• Single and double-aspect dwellings are possible
