Automatic vs. Manual Operation
Automatically transfers to the standby source when available, if the preferred source is lost
AUTO Transfers back to the preferred source when it becomes available
Can use to transfer when the switch is in Must use for all transfers when the switch is
MANUAL position and both sources are in the MANUAL position
available Initiates transfer sequences to the other
TRANSFER Initiates transfer sequences to the other source including all time delays
source including all time delays Operates pre- and post-transfer load control
Operates pre- and post-transfer load control time delays if both sources are available
time delays if both sources are available

Load Control
• Load Shed
• Time-Based Load Control
• Current-Based Load Control
KOHLERPOWER.COM / 26
Load Shed
Standard Features
• Disconnects non-critical loads to prevent generator overload
• Monitors generator current and frequency to determine when
to shed loads
• Loads are added and shed according to priority
• Forced transfer from Emergency to OFF for programmed-
transition models
• Load priorities are hard-wired at installation
• Requires load shed kit
Recommendation
• For applications with multiple transfer switches
• For applications where ATS units have low priority loads where
it is critical not to exceed the load capacity of the generator
KOHLERPOWER.COM / 27
Time-Based Load Control
• Control up to 9 individual loads
• Adds and removes based on pre-transfer and
post-transfer
– Only occurs at time of transfer
Recommendation
• Good for highly inductive loads while minimizing
the size of the generator
KOHLERPOWER.COM / 28
Current-Based Load Control
• Control up to 9 individual loads
• Adds and removes based on current measurement
– Occurs at any time during operation
Recommendation
• Good for insuring power stability for critical loads while minimizing the size of the generator
KOHLERPOWER.COM / 29
Three Source System
• One generator is available while the other
is serviced
