'Gainsbourg' (Photo: Music Box Films) It's hard to find an equivalent to French singer/songwriter/provocateur Serge Gainsbourg in American society -- he's part Bob Dylan, part Dean Martin, and part Johnny Rotten. He managed to get a teen pop star to sing a double-entendre-laden song about lollipops; he got a pair of international movie stars to orgasmically moan for two versions of the song "Je t'aime moi non plus"; and sang a duet with his daughter about incest. And yet when he died in 1991, President Francois Mitterrand described Gainsbourg as "our Baudelaire, our Apollinaire." The French recall his passing of a heart attack in the same way Americans might recall Kurt Cobain's or John Lennon's; it was a moment of national mourning. Twenty years later, Serge Gainsbourg seems to be going through something of a renaissance. He had a tribute show at the Hollywood Bowl last month, featuring the likes of Beck and Sean Lennon. A documentary called "Gainsbourg and His Girls" -which centers around Gainsbourg, who was more charismatic than handsome, and his numerous gorgeous lovers, including Brigitte Bardot -- is making the rounds on the film festival circuit. And, now, Joann Sfar's surreal biopic, "Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life," hits the silver screen in the States.

Even though Rotten Tomatoes and Yahoo Movies are websites based on Film Entertainment only, they are participatory websites. The websites offer access to anyone and everyone to share information concerning reviews, celebrities, news, etc. in the form of Blogging. A Knowledge Community is a group of people sharing information about something they are knowledgeable in or enjoy, Rotten Tomatoes and Yahoo Movies fulfill this definition.

New Media and Convergence - New Media allows people, corporations, etc to share information, music, entertainment and to socialize through modern technology. -Convergence is the flow of information (media) across multiple devices of technology.

Knowledge Communities are rapidly growing and are able to do so because New Media gives them the access. Along with Convergence people are able to stay connected basically to the rest of the world at all times. Once it was newspapers and magazines, then radio, on to TV, and now it is cell phones, internet access, satellite. While watching TV, advertisement and websites pop up at the bottom of the screen. The same goes with the internet. Constantly there are messages of Media everywhere. Unless social class prohibits an individual from having such things, most everyone is a click away from useful and useless information.

New Media helps Knowledge Communities to thrive. The technology world is growing at a rapid speed. There are individuals with even better ideas for technology that have not been recorded yet. As long as people keep thinking and learning the more advance society becomes and allowing Knowledge Communities to continue to be a popular source.

Here is a brief video to show the changes in New Media and the direction our society is heading towards.
