The Congruence Theorem for

Right Triangles
PARTS OF RIGHT TRIANGLE
PARTS OF RIGHT TRIANGLE

• Hypotenuse – is the longest side of a right-

angled triangle, the side opposite the right
angle.
• Leg – are the two sides that intersect to
determine the right angle.
LESSON

Hypotenuse – Acute Angle (HyA) Congruence

Theorem
If the hypotenuse and an acute angle of one right
triangle are congruent to the corresponding
hypotenuse and an acute angle of another right
triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

LESSON

Hypotenuse – Leg (HyL) Congruence Theorem

If the hypotenuse and a leg of one right triangle are

congruent to the corresponding hypotenuse and a
leg of another right triangle, then the triangles are
congruent.

congruent to a leg and an acute angle of another
right triangle, then the triangles are congruent.
