Task – Logistics

Task - 2
(A) Inventory storage problems and their
solutions
• While there can be MANY problems associated with inventory storage and
management in a college society some of which I think are most
problematic (with solutions) are:
1. Poor organization: When inventory is not organized properly, it
can be difficult to locate items when they are needed.
Solutions to this problem may include implementing a more
efficient labeling system, using software to track inventory and
locate items, or reorganizing storage areas to make items
easier to find. Also having an efficient and well communicating
team is a must.
2. Damage to inventory: If inventory is not stored properly, it can become
damaged or spoiled. Specially in a college environment where there are
so many students. Solutions to this problem may include using protective
packaging, and regularly inspecting and replacing damaged items, so
that no faulty item is delivered to the customer.
3. Security concerns: If inventory is not stored securely, it may be at risk of
theft or damage. Solutions to this problem may include implementing
security measures, such as surveillance cameras, and regularly checking
inventory levels to ensure that nothing is missing. And if found missing,
should be reported immediately.
4. A solution many of these problems can be implementing a system of
storage which relies more on “stocking when necessary” model. Although
it may put us in a few hand picked difficult situations where a large order
has to be met in a very short span of time.
(B) Delivery methods
• Here we may have to choose between more cost effective methods and more
reliable and fast methods.
1. Starting with the most “cost-effective” method, we may choose to use postal
services. They can be a cost-effective option, particularly for smaller items, but
delivery times can vary and tracking may not be as reliable as with other
methods.
2. Alternatively we can use courier services like “Delhivery” or “Porter”. These
may be more expensive than postal services but they are much more reliable,
user-friendly as they are easier to track, and faster.
3. Another option that can be looked at is drop delivery, where we
ship the product directly from the manufacturer to the consumer.
This method may require much better communication between us
and the producer, but it will reduce the cost of storing and
managing the inventory.
4. Another viable option for a limited number of consumers that might
reside closer to our storage unit can be “in-store delivery” as it is
called, this can reduce both the delivery cost (as there will be no
delivery involved) and time which will benefit the consumer.
(C) Cost effective ways of packaging
• Let us explore some of the most cost-effective ways that companies can
package their products, including using lightweight materials, recycling
packaging materials, using standard sizes, and reusing packaging
materials.
1. Using lightweight materials: Packaging materials such as cardboard,
paper, and bubble wrap can be used as they ae very cheap. Also
leftover “katran” can be used too, as it is already available and can be
used as is, also it can provide shock dampening to keep the products
from damaging during delivery.
2. Recycling packaging materials: Using recycled materials for packaging,
such as corrugated cardboard or newspaper, can be a cost-effective and
environmentally friendly option.
3. Using standard sizes: If we use delivery option, custom packaging
can be more expensive than using standard sizes that are commonly
used by shipping carriers.
4. Reusing packaging materials: We can reuse packaging materials
whenever possible, such as envelopes or boxes that have already
been used for another shipment. We can also buy “used” packaging
materials from local shops at a much lower rate, this can be cheaper
and at the same time more environmentally friendly by keeping
stuff out of the landfill they might end up in.
