• These are Havighurt's Developmental Task and
Erickson’s Psychosocial Stages.
HAVIGHURST DEVELOPMENTAL TASK

A developmental task is a task at a particular


period in an individual’s life which if
successfully accomplished, may lead to
happiness and success in later tasks

Types of Counseling
(According to the number of participants)

• Individual Counseling
• Group Counseling • Family Counseling
• Multiple Counseling
• Couple Counseling
Individual Counseling- is the best known type
of counseling. This involves a one-on-one
session between the counselor and the clie
Group Counseling- it involves several clients
with common concerns and goals. For
instance, clients who have a problems with
interpersonal skills can group together and
work out some strategies
MULTIPLE COUNSELING- type of counseling to
wherein more than one counselor and attend
to clients-may it be an individual, couple, or
group
COUPLE COUNSELING- refers to counseling to
various types of couples such as male-female,
male-male, and female-female. This type of
counseling focuses on the relationship
concerns of the parties involved
FAMILY COUNSELING- type of counseling
between family members and a trained
counseling professional. This may be focused
on improving family relationships or helping
the family cope with incident-specific issues,
such as death in the family.

STAGE 1: RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

Empathy- the ability to understand the


subjective experience of the client
STAGE 2: ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS

During this stage, counselors gain an in-depth


understanding of their clients through
assessment. This can be done through the use
of STANDARDIZED AND NON-STANDARDIZED
means.
STAGE 2: ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS

STANDARDIZED-used of psychological tests,


such as IQ, mental ability, personality, and
career test.

NON-STANDARDIZED- interviews, observations,


anecdotal records, and case studies
STAGE 3: FORMULATION AND GOALS

Goal setting is a shared task and responsibility of


counselors and clients. Counseling can be
categorized as process goals and outcome goals.
• OUTCOME GOAL- intended result of
counseling,
• PROCESS GOAL- planned events by the
counselor or achieving the outcome goals
STAGE 4: INTERVIEW AND PROBLEM SOLVING

Once goals have been formulated, counselors


and clients work on defining intervention
strategies to implement.

INTERVENTION- refers to the deliberate process


or method of solving the client's problem. It is
advantageous for clients to be involved in the
selection of interventions to be implemented
STAGE 5: TERMINATION AND FOLLOW-UP

For every beginning, there is an end. It is said


that the end of counseling is to empower clients
to reach the point wherein they would have no
need of counselors assistance as they journey
through life.
STAGE 6: RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

Research and evaluation are essential aspects of


counseling that contribute to the advancement
of the profession.

WHAT IS SOCIAL WORK?

Social work is the professional


activity of helping individuals, groups or
communities, enhance or restore their capacity
for social functioning and creating societal
conditions favorable to this we can gather from
this definition that the practice of social work
concerns not just individuals, but also groups
and communities

academic discipline that promotes social
change and
development, social cohesion, and the
empowerment
and liberation of people.
