INTRODUCTION
Arunachal Pradesh, meaning “Land of the
Rising Sun,” long has been a recognized
region of the Indian subcontinent.
Formerly known as the North East
Frontier Agency (from the British colonial
era), the area was part of Assam until it
was made the Indian union territory of
Arunachal Pradesh in 1972, and in 1987 it
became an Indian state. The region,
however, has been the subject of an
ongoing sovereignty dispute between
India and China.

Dances In Arunachal Pradesh
Arunachal Pradesh is the north eastern
most state of India. It is also called as
the “Orchid State of India”. It is a
beautiful state which is well known
for its ancient culture, tradition, dress
and language. Arunachal Pradesh has
a variety of dance forms. Dancers
perform a unique style of dance

Buiya Dance
The Bhuiya dance is a joyful
dance performed by both Digaru
Mishmi women and men, often
after grand feasts or family
gatherings, and also during
festivals like Tazampu, Duiya,
and Tanuya, which helps to
strengthen the bond between
people.
Chalo Dance
The Chalo dance is a significant
part of the Chalo Loku festival,
celebrated by the Nocte tribe in
Arunachal Pradesh every year in
October and November, to bid
farewell to the past season and
welcome the upcoming paddy
cultivation season
Wancho Dance
The Wancho dance is a vital
aspect of the Oriah festival,
celebrated by the Wancho tribe
in the spring months of March
and April, where the dance
brings the tribe members
together, creating a sense of
solidarity.
Rikhampada Dance
The Rikhampada folk dance is renowned
as one of the most vibrant and Its roots
can be traced back to the Nyishi tribes,
which belong to the Lower Subansiri
district of the state and are the largest
tribe there. This dance has since become
an integral part of their cultural heritage,
and its energetic and lively movements
continue to captivate audiences to this
day
Ponung Dance
he Ponung dance, a crucial religious
celebration for the Adi tribe, is performed
by dancing girls and ladies forming a
circle, where they pray to God before the
harvest season, with a male Miri singing
a folk song and playing the Yoksha
instrument. The song tells a story about
the history of the Adis, the origins of the
crops they harvest, and much more.
Popir Dance
The Popir dance, performed by the Galo
tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, is well
known. This tribe holds a number of
festivals throughout the year. Perhaps the
dance is a homage to the goddess Mopin
Ape, who is considered the goddess of
abundance and procreation. She is one of
the Galo tribe's most beloved goddesses
Culture Of
Arunachal Pradesh
Arunachal Pradesh is well known for its
ancient culture. Known as the 'The Land of
Dawnlit Mountains', Arunachal Pradesh
finds mention in prominent scriptures of
India, such as the Kalika Purana and
Mahabharata. Sage Parashurama washed
away his sins in Arunachal which was then
known as Prabhu Mountains. Sage Vyasa
meditated in the forests of this region and
Lord Krishna married Rukmini at this
legendary site of India.

Tribes
Arunachal Pradesh is extremely
diverse since the state is home
to 26 major tribes and sub-
tribes. Each tribe has its own
customs and traditions.
Arunachal's most significant
tribes are the Adi, Galo, Aka,
Apatani, Nyishi, Tagins, Bori,
and Bokar, among others.
Handicrafts
The traditional art of creating
wonderful articles from the very
common material available have
been passed on from generation
after generation in the state.
Cane and bamboo are produced
in abundance in Arunachal
Pradesh. Both cane and bamboo
are used amazingly in making
several items such as baskets,
hats, cane vessels, cane belts
Festivals
Arunachal Pradesh celebrates a
variety of festivals that reflect its rich
cultural diversity. One of the most
prominent festivals in the state is
Losar, which marks the Tibetan New
Year. Losar is a vibrant and joyous
festival filled with traditional music,
dance, and religious rituals.
Another significant festival is
Nyokum, celebrated by the Nyishi
tribe. It is a harvest festival dedicated
to the goddess Nyokum.
Dresses
People here love their traditional
costumes. The Traditional dress of
Arunachal Pradesh includes shawls,
wraps, and skirts. Though the tribes
have common ethnicity, depending on
the geographic region dressing style
differs. Weaving is said to be in the
blood of Arunachal Pradesh
natives.Arunachal Pradesh inhibits
cultural diversity when comes to
clothing.Even floral designs are also a
part of their costumes. Stripes are
another common pattern.
